So I finally caved and bought the PS5 Pro. Been a day one owner of the original disc model and I honestly thought Id be fine with it forever but that PSSR tech and the promise of actual 60fps at high res finally got me. Now that its sitting on my desk though I realized my old setup is kind of a mess and I want to do this right from the start. Im looking to spend maybe another 300 or 400 bucks to get the definitive experience but there are so many random things on Amazon that look like cheap plastic junk.
I definitely need to figure out the storage situation first. Even with the 2TB internal I know Im gonna fill that up in like a week with how big games are getting now especially with those 4K texture packs. Does anyone have a specific heatsink and SSD combo they recommend that actually fits the Pros dimensions without overheating? Ive heard some of the older ones might run a bit hotter in the new chassis but maybe Im just overthinking it. Im up in the Seattle area so it gets chilly but my gaming nook has basically zero airflow.
Here is what I am looking for specifically:
Im mostly playing late at night in my living room so I need things to be pretty low profile and quiet. I already have the DualSense Edge which is great but Im wondering if theres anything else thats a must have for someone who cares about the technical side of things. Like, are those third-party cooling fans actually worth the ten bucks or are they just gonna loud up my room? I want to make sure Im getting the most out of the upgraded GPU without it sounding like a jet engine taking off. What are you guys actually using on your rigs...
I've used these for a while and honestly they've been perfect even with zero airflow:
Building on the earlier suggestion, I actually went a slightly different route for my Pro because Im always a bit paranoid about heat and long-term reliability. While the WD is a solid pick, I’ve been super happy with the Samsung 990 PRO 2TB NVMe SSD with Heatsink. It feels really premium and I havent seen it throttle once, even in my stuffy TV cabinet. Plus, that heatsink fits the expansion slot perfectly with no weird gaps. I actually disagree with getting the Razer charger tho. I prefer the PowerA Twin Charging Station for DualSense because it’s super weighted and stable. It doesnt slide around when you’re trying to dock the controller in the dark, which is a big plus for late night sessions when youre half asleep. Tbh it just feels a bit more solid for the price. For the headset, if you want to avoid the sweat, you gotta get something with mesh pads. I’m using the <a href=" https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/search?Ntt= SteelSeries+Arctis+Nova+7P+Wireless&BI=8941&KBID=10361&SID=12345&DFF=d50" target="_blank" rel="nofollow sponsored">SteelSeries Arctis Nova 7P Wireless and it’s been a total dream. The fabric cushions are basically sports material so they dont get all gross and sticky after two hours like the leatherette ones do. The 3D audio works perfectly with them too. And seriously... skip those $10 cooling fans. Most of them are just junk that makes the console louder without actually helping. Sony knows what they’re doing with the internal airflow, so adding a cheap plastic fan might actually hurt more than it helps. If youre worried about the cat, maybe look at the NexiGo PS5 Pro Vertical Stand with Weighted Base. It is way wider than the official one so it wont tip over if your cat gets the zoomies near the desk.
Man I wish I found this thread sooner. Would have saved me so much hassle.
Yep, this is the way
