literally spent all night looking at reviews and im so stressed about picking the wrong one. I keep seeing the SteelSeries Arctis 7P+ being recommended but then some forums say the mic is super quiet and muffled which wont work for my rank grind in Apex. Then theres the BlackShark V2 Pro but idk if all the features even work on a PS4 Pro since most people use it for PC and i dont wanna waste my money.

basically need:

  • under $150 budget
  • needs to be comfortable with glasses (mine have thick frames)
  • zero lag for competitive play
  • good mic quality so my team doesnt mute me

is there anything better or should i just risk it with the SteelSeries...

Unfortunately, finding a reliable wireless setup for the PS4 Pro is a bit of a headache. I have been disappointed by how many premium headsets perform poorly once you move them away from a PC environment. Like someone mentioned, the mic gain issue is a significant problem that can compromise your team coordination during a grind. To ensure you do not waste your money, I suggest focusing on these two technical points:

  • Prioritize 2.4GHz USB transmitters over any Bluetooth options to ensure there is zero lag during competitive play.
  • Look for suspension-style headbands rather than traditional foam; they are much more comfortable if you wear thick glasses as they distribute pressure away from the temples. I eventually settled on the Logitech G535 LIGHTSPEED Wireless Gaming Headset because it is incredibly light and doesn't press my frames into my head. It is a reliable, no-frills option. Another safe choice is the Turtle Beach Stealth 600 Gen 2 MAX Wireless Gaming Headset. It is engineered specifically for console architecture, so the microphone is actually loud and clear without needing any external software tweaks. It is frustrating that we have to compromise so much on console compared to PC, but these two are at least dependable.

To add to the point above: be careful with software-dependent features on PS4.

In my experience, you are right to be cautious about software-dependent gear. Over the years, I have seen too many console players buy headsets only to find the mic quality is tethered to a PC app. If you cant adjust the gain on the console, you are stuck with a muffled mic. For competitive play, that is a significant risk. You really need hardware that performs natively on the PS4 Pro.
