My PS4 Pro is maxed out and I need space for an update tonight. I saw the WD Black recommended but then read a basic Seagate is just as good. Does the speed actually matter for a Pro or should I just grab the cheapest 2TB drive today? I only have like 80 bucks...
Honestly, for a PS4 Pro, the speed difference between a fancy gaming drive and a basic one is pretty minimal because you're mostly limited by the USB 3.0 connection anyway. I've been using external drives for years and if you've only got 80 bucks, I'd prioritize reliability over marketing hype. The WD Black is nice but you're mostly paying for the rugged shell and the branding tbh. I'd suggest looking at the Western Digital WD Elements 2TB Portable External Hard Drive since it's a solid, no-frills workhorse that usually fits your budget. The Seagate Expansion 2TB External HDD is another decent option that works just fine too. Just a heads up... don't move the drive while it's plugged in and spinning. I've seen people brick their storage just by bumping it mid-game. Stick to a name brand you trust and you'll be fine for storage.
USB 3.0 5Gbps bus bottlenecks drives anyway, so just grab the Toshiba Canvio Basics 2TB.
