So I finally pulled the trigger on the Sony RX100 VII for my big trip to Tokyo next month and man this thing is a little beast but it feels so tiny in my hands compared to my old A7iii setup. Ive been shooting for years but this is my first time trying to go super minimalist for travel and Im kinda worried about the ergonomics and battery life since everyone says these NP-BX1 batteries are basically a joke if youre shooting 4K or lots of high-speed bursts.
I already grabbed a screen protector but Im looking at like a hundred different things on Amazon and getting a bit overwhelmed. Ive got about 300 bucks left in my budget for extras before I leave in three weeks and I really want to make sure I dont miss any shots because I didnt have a grip or the right filter adapter.
I noticed theres no built-in ND filter on this model which is a huge bummer compared to the older marks so Im thinking about those stick-on MagFilter rings but are they actually reliable or do they just fall off in the heat? Also looking for a solid cage or maybe just a leather half-case to help with the grip since I have huge hands. Im looking at these specifically:
What are the absolute must-have accessories you guys use to actually make this thing usable for a full day of street photography and vlogging...
Get the UURig R017 L-Plate Extension Grip for Sony RX100 VII! It is fantastic for big hands and way cheaper than a cage. Snag a SanDisk Extreme Pro 128GB SDXC UHS-I 200MBs too!
> I noticed theres no built-in ND filter on this model which is a huge bummer The missing ND is annoying but tbh the MagFilter Threaded Adapter 52mm works well and hasnt fallen off for me yet, even in humidity. Since you have big hands, I've been super satisfied with the Sony AG-R2 Attachment Grip. It adds just enough meat to the front without the bulk of a full cage. Definitely check out the RX100 threads on the Fred Miranda forums for more minimalist travel setup ideas!
Seconded!
Get the SmallRig Cage for Sony RX100 VII CCS2434 now! It improves ergonomics immensely. You definitely need the Lensmate RX100 VII Quick Change Filter Adapter 52mm and some Sony NP-BX1 1240mAh Battery spares too!
