I just picked up an FX30 for a wedding shoot next weekend in Seattle and I'm panicking a bit about the rig. I was looking at the basic SmallRig cage because its cheap but then I saw reviews saying it blocks the pins for the XLR top handle which is a dealbreaker since I need my audio.
Then I saw the Tilta one but people say the mounting points for a monitor are awkward. My logic was that I should go modular but I cant tell if these cages actually leave room for the fan to breathe. I need to order by tonight to get it here by Friday... does the Black Mamba version actually fix the handle issue?
I just used the SmallRig Camera Cage for Sony FX30 FX3 4183 for a marathon wedding shoot and I love it! It fits that XLR top handle perfectly without blocking any pins, total lifesaver for my audio setup. Plus, it saved me a ton of cash compared to the expensive Tilta stuff. It breathes just fine too... never had a single overheating issue!
Coming back to this after looking at my own rig. Quick question tho, are you planning on using a heavy 7-inch monitor or just a standard 5-inch? The mounting logic changes a bit depending on that weight and where you want the center of gravity. I've been really happy with the Tilta Full Camera Cage for Sony FX3 FX30 V2 Black which usually runs about $95. It actually works well for your specific concerns:
