Im honestly so fed up with my old Zhiyun Crane M2, it keeps vibrating and losing balance mid-video and I am just ready to switch to something that actually works with my new a6700. I am so excited to finally have 10-bit color but my current gimbal setup is basically a paperweight right now. My logic was to get the RS3 Mini because everyone says it is the gold standard but then I saw the Hohem MT2 and got totally stuck. I need to figure this out before my trip to Tokyo in three weeks. Budget is around 350 bucks max. Is the RS3 Mini actually the best choice for this camera or is there something even smaller that wont freak out?

stumbled on this thread and i am so hyped for your tokyo trip! the a6700 is such a beast for video and that 10-bit color is gonna look incredible in shinjuku at night. honestly, if youre stuck between the two, you really gotta look at the technical trade-offs. the DJI RS 3 Mini 3-Axis Mirrorless Gimbal is a total tank and the stabilization is literally world-class, but the Hohem iSteady MT2 Kit 4-in-1 Gimbal is a total sleeper hit for travelers! heres why the hohem is amazing for the a6700 specifically:

  • the magnetic ai tracker is fantastic if youre doing solo shots... no app or bluetooth pairing needed!
  • it has a much better native vertical shooting mode than the older zhiyun gear you hated
  • the payload is high enough that it wont vibrate even with a decent lens like the sigma 18-50mm if you plan on using heavier glass, the DJI RS 3 Mini 3-Axis Mirrorless Gimbal is definitely the safer bet because those motors are super beefy and just dont quit. but if you want something that fits in a small sling bag and has a built-in fill light for those dark alleys, the hohem is basically a dream. also check out the Feiyu SCORP Mini 2 3-Axis Gimbal Stabilizer if you want that integrated underslung grip for cool low-angle shots. you really cant go wrong with either for under 350 bucks! have the best time in japan!

Building on the earlier suggestion, i actually went through this exact same headache last year before a big shoot. i ended up grabbing the DJI RS 3 Mini 3-Axis Gimbal Stabilizer and honestly its been a total lifesaver for my a6700 setup. i was worried it wouldnt handle my bigger lenses but its worked so well for me and i havent had a single motor vibration yet, which is such a relief after dealing with shaky gear in the past. i am really satisfied with the native vertical mode too. another one i looked at was the Zhiyun Crane M3S Handheld Gimbal Stabilizer which is slightly cheaper and even more compact. its a solid choice if youre really trying to save space in your carry-on for tokyo, but dji just feels safer to me for long term reliability... like i know the software wont glitch in the middle of a busy shibuya street. just a tip, keep an eye on the total weight with your glass. if you stay under that 350 budget you can still afford an extra battery or two. just take your time balancing it perfectly before you head out and youll be golden. let me know if you need help with the settings once you get it!

honestly, i totally feel you on the zhiyun stuff. unfortunately, i had nothing but trouble with their motors in the past and it was just so disappointing when i was out in the field. for a trip as big as tokyo, you really dont want to be fighting your gear. i looked at the hohem too but it was not as good as expected in terms of software stability. i had issues with the app constantly crashing during setup which is the last thing you need. id just go with the DJI RS 3 Mini 3-Axis Gimbal Stabilizer 4.4lb Payload because it actually stays balanced and the motors are way more reliable for the a6700. its pretty much the only one i trust right now. it might feel slightly bigger than your old m2 but at least it wont vibrate like crazy. let me know if you need any tips on the setup!
