Hi everyone, I recently got the new Sony FX30 camera and am looking for recommendations on the best microphone to pair with it for run-and-gun style shooting and interviews. I'd prefer something on-camera if possible. Any suggestions? Thanks!
I use the new released DJI MIC 2, easy to use. And the sound quality is amazing! I use them for podcasts, videography, public speaking, recording meetings, the list goes on. This DJI mic 2 set is getting a workout for sure. And I haven't had a single bit of trouble with them.
For on-camera microphones suitable for run-and-gun shooting and interviews with the Sony FX30, consider the Rode VideoMic Pro+ for its versatility and sound quality, or the Sennheiser MKE 400 for its compact design and built-in wind protection.
The Sony FX30 works best with mics that match its cinema-focused capabilities. The Rode VideoMic Pro+ is an excellent on-camera option with clean audio and adjustable settings. For professional sound, the Sony ECM-B10 offers digital processing and directional patterns that integrate seamlessly with the FX30.
If you need wireless solutions, the Sony UWP-D series or DJI Mic 2 provide reliable performance with the camera. For interviews, a lavalier mic like the Sennheiser ME 2-II connected to a wireless transmitter works extremely well.
Your choice ultimately depends on your shooting environment and what you're filming. The FX30's high-quality XLR adapter (like the XLR-K3M) also opens up options for professional XLR microphones if you need broadcast-quality sound.
^ This. Also, looking at all these recommendations, I am honestly a bit disappointed that everyone is suggesting such expensive setups. I had a shoot last month where a high-end wireless kit just completely flaked out on me because of signal congestion in the area... it was a nightmare to fix in post. Most of the thread is leaning toward those pricey DJI and Sennheiser options, but that stuff adds up fast. If you are trying to be cost-conscious, just get any shotgun from Sony. Using their proprietary shoe means you wont have to buy extra cables or adapters, which is where the hidden costs usually are. Or just go with any wireless gear from Rode. You really cant go wrong with those brands for a camera like the FX30.
Just wanted to say thanks for everyone chiming in. Super helpful discussion.
The Sony ECM-VG1 Short Shotgun Microphone offers strong, clean output signal for event video shoots, indie film production, TV and documentary shooting, court room depositions, and more. Love it.
The Rode VideoMic NTG is ideal for the FX30. It features a volume dial and -20db safety channel, suitable for cameras with 3.5mm inputs and limited controls. Paired with a Wireless Go, it can function as an affordable wireless boom setup. It's budget-friendly and requires no additional adapters.
