What is the absolute best budget prime for street photography on the Sony a6400 that wont break the bank but also doesnt hunt for focus forever?

I have been shooting for about four years now mostly doing landscapes and travel stuff but I recently started walking around downtown Chicago trying to capture some street scenes and I am honestly failing miserably. I thought I knew what I was doing but man street photography is a totally different beast. I have the Sigma 56mm f1.4 which is an incredible lens for portraits and the sharpness is insane but it is just way too tight for these narrow sidewalks and I feel like I have to stand across the street just to get a person in the frame.

I tried using my old 16-50mm kit lens too but the aperture is so slow that everything looks muddy and I lose that separation I want even in daylight. Then I tried adapting an old manual Minolta 28mm because I wanted that vintage look but the focus peaking on the a6400 is just not cutting it for me when people are moving fast. I keep missing the focus by like an inch or two and it is driving me absolutely insane seeing all these blurry shots when I get home. I really need something with fast autofocus that is small enough to not look like a huge pro photographer because people keep staring at me with the big Sigma on there and it makes me nervous.

My budget is pretty tight right now maybe 250 or 300 dollars tops if I buy used. I was looking at the Sony 20mm f2.8 pancake because it looks so tiny and stealthy but I heard the image quality isnt great compared to the newer stuff? Or maybe the Sigma 30mm f1.4 but I dont know if that is still too big for what I want. I just want something sharp that I can trust to lock on while I am walking. Any thoughts on those or maybe those Samyang tiny series lenses? I am really stressing out because I have a trip to NYC coming up in two weeks and I really want to have a reliable setup by then...

I've learned to be careful with slow focus in NYC crowds, honestly. I would suggest looking at:

Just saw this thread. I went through the exact same struggle in Chicago with my old kit and you definitely want something smaller than that Sigma 56mm. I would suggest looking into the TTArtisan 27mm f/2.8 AF because it is a true pancake lens and won't draw any attention. Technically, that 27mm on your crop sensor gives you a 40.5mm equivalent field of view which is basically the gold standard for street. I found that focal length way more versatile than a 35mm for tight sidewalks. The AF is decent but you might want to consider checking the firmware version via the USB port on the back cap as soon as you get it to avoid focus hunting. Another solid choice is the Sigma 19mm f/2.8 DN Art if you can find one on the used market for cheap. It is significantly smaller than your 56mm and gives you a 28.5mm equivalent view. Just be careful because the AF motor in those older DN lenses can be a bit chattery compared to modern linear motors. I learned the hard way that people hear that clicking sound if you get too close in a quiet spot. Make sure to test the AF in low light before your NYC trip because these f/2.8 lenses can struggle to lock on compared to your f/1.4 glass.

Quick reply while I have a sec. I felt like a creep with big lenses in Chicago too... honestly skip the Sigma 30mm f1.4 if you want stealth, it's bigger than it looks. I'd suggest:
