Im kinda panicking because I have a trip to Japan in two weeks and need one lens for my a6700 and ZV-E10. I read the Sigma 18-50 is great but some say no stabilization is a nightmare for the ZV-E10 video. Is the Tamron 17-70 too big or should I just stick with the Sigma?
Size is fine for me since im super happy with Tamron 17-70mm f/2.8 Di III-A VC RXD. That VC works well for ZV-E10 video.
Saw this thread today and felt like I should share a warning. I lugged a massive kit through Tokyo a few years back and honestly my back still remembers it. You really gotta be careful with the bulk. While the Tamron 17-70mm f/2.8 Di III-A VC RXD is an amazing piece of glass, it turns the tiny ZV-E10 into a front-heavy mess. I found myself leaving it in the hotel more often than not because it was just too much for a full day of walking. If you are watching your budget, I would suggest looking closer at the Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 DC DN Contemporary. It lacks stabilization, but the price-to-performance ratio is hard to beat for travel. Quick tip for the ZV-E10: use a camera strap around your neck and push the camera out until the strap is taut. This creates a third point of contact that stabilizes your footage significantly. Make sure to consider the total weight youll be carrying for 10+ hours a day... Japan involves a lot of stairs and walking. Dont let a heavy lens ruin the trip.
Like someone mentioned, stabilization is key for that ZV-E10. In my experience, if the Tamron feels like a brick, the Sony E 18-105mm f/4 G OSS is a solid middle ground. I've tried many setups and this works well for travel.
