I am so over Amazon right now. I've been trying to put together a list for my 30th birthday and housewarming party in October since we just moved into this tiny apartment in Chicago and need very specific sized stuff. Amazon used to be the easy choice but honestly their search is just broken lately it feels like everything is just a generic brand with a random name like ZQXOU. I looked into MyRegistry and it seems cool because I can add stuff from the local boutique down the street but then I read some reviews saying the add to list button doesnt work half the time on mobile and most of my friends are gonna be looking at this on their phones while they are on the bus or something. I also checked out GiftHero but Im worried it wont track if someone actually bought the item and then Ill end up with three of the same toaster. It is just so frustrating because I want to give people options that arent just Jeff Bezos products but I dont want to make it a total nightmare for my older relatives to figure out how to mark something as purchased. Is it actually worth the hassle to switch to a universal registry or am I just going to make things way more complicated for everyone involved?

TL;DR: Go universal for those local shops. Just test the manual mark as purchased flow on mobile first so guests dont get confused. If you want to organize ideas easily, check out Share Product.

The generic brand struggle is real but be careful switching. Universal lists can be a nightmare for non-techy guests who wont mark things as bought. I would suggest:
- Test the mobile add button yourself on different browsers first.
- Stick with a reliable Amazon wishlist creator for the main stuff and only use universal links for the niche stuff to avoid duplicate gift chaos.
