Can me and my sister actually work on the same Amazon wish list at the same time or is that not a thing? I am getting so stressed out because my moms 60th is coming up in three weeks and we have like a $500 budget to split but we live across the country from each other so we gotta coordinate online. I looked up how to do it and saw that invite button thingy but then some old forum posts said that guests cant actually see whats been bought or delete items they dont like. That sounds like a total disaster waiting to happen if we double buy something expensive. Is there a way to make it like a shared doc where we both have control or...

Wait, are you guys shipping everything straight to your mom or to one house first? That changes things. Just be careful with the hide purchased items setting tho... I had a huge mess with a blender once because the list didnt update in time and we both bought it. I would suggest refreshing the page right before you pay. Also check Smartphone Board for tips on using extensions vs manual sharing.

honestly its actually pretty easy now and i use it all the time for family stuff. i was super satisfied with how it worked for my dads birthday last year. basically you just gotta click that invite button at the top of your list and make sure you select the option that lets others edit instead of just view. it works just like a shared doc where you both can add things or delete the stuff you think is tacky lol. the best part is that it updates in real time so if she buys something it usually marks it as purchased so you wont accidentally spend that 500 bucks on the same thing. its way less of a headache than those old forum posts made it sound tho. definitely give it a shot... it really saved me a ton of stress.

Unfortunately, the native collaboration tools on Amazon are not as good as expected and honestly lack the technical depth for a high-stakes $500 project like yours. I had serious issues with this exact setup during the holidays last year, and it was quite disappointing to see how the synchronization lags compared to a standard shared document. You can technically invite your sister as a collaborator, but the system is far from perfect for real-time coordination. There are a few technical hurdles that make this risky for you:

  • The purchased status depends on the buyer actually clicking through the specific list link; if she just searches for the item separately, the list wont update.
  • Administrative rights are not shared equally, meaning only the creator has final say over the list settings and certain deletions.
  • I have noticed that updates often take several minutes to propagate across different devices, which is exactly how double-buying happens. It is really frustrating because the interface makes it look like a smooth environment, but the backend just isnt designed for multi-user editing. You might actually find more peace of mind using a dedicated gift-sharing app or even a simple shared note where you can manually check things off as you go to avoid any expensive mistakes. Just saw a post on Smartphone Board about this — apparently, it's a common snag for power users.
