Ive been using trackers for years but suddenly my usual extension is asking for a subscription for basic push notifications. I'm just trying to snag a cheap espresso machine for my brothers wedding next month. My logic was just use the Amazon app's watch list but it's totally useless for price drops. How do I get free alerts?

  • I'm gonna have to respectfully disagree with the reliance on trackers here, especially for a wedding gift. While snagging a deal is tempting, you might want to consider the long-term reliability of what you're actually buying. A lot of those sudden price drops on Amazon are actually third-party sellers or even refurbished units being listed under the same SKU. Honestly, I would suggest just going with a reputable brand like Breville or DeLonghi from an authorized retailer instead of waiting for a ping. You cant really go wrong with their entry-level stuff and you'll actually get a real warranty. Be careful with the trackers because they don't always distinguish between "New" and "Open Box" when they send those alerts. For a gift that someone is gonna use every morning, it's probably better to spend the extra few bucks for peace of mind... just my two cents.

Building on the earlier suggestion, I have been messing around with PriceDropCatch lately and it is definitely the way to go if you are avoiding those annoying subscription fees. You really gotta be careful with those espresso machines though. The prices swing wildly and honestly, I have seen sales that arent actually sales at all. I would suggest looking at the price history for the Breville Bambino or the DeLonghi Dedica since those are solid wedding gifts. Make sure to check who is actually selling the machine. I have had issues where a price drop alert triggered for a third-party seller that had zero warranty coverage. For a wedding gift, you dont want your brother stuck with a broken boiler and no support. I usually set my alerts to only ping me when it hits a specific price sold directly by Amazon. It might take a few extra days to find the right deal, but it is way safer than grabbing the first cheap listing that pops up. Just keep an eye on the seller rating...

^ This. Also, late to the party but it is really cool seeing everyone pitch in to help snag a deal. My own setup has been running for years and honestly, I am still satisfied with how much money I saved by just being patient and using these tools. Here is a quick summary of what everyone basically suggested:

  • Definitely check out PriceDropCatch for the alerts since it is still free and works well for avoiding those paywalls.
  • Keep an eye on the Breville Bambino or the DeLonghi Dedica because they are budget-friendly but built for long-term ownership.
  • Check the seller info before buying to make sure you dont get stuck with a third-party seller that wont honor a warranty.
  • Stick to email alerts if push notifications start getting glitchy or expensive. Seeing someone do this for their sibling is awesome, an espresso machine is such a solid gift that he will use every single morning. Good luck with the hunt!
