How do I receive desktop notifications when an Amazon item's price drops?

Is there any way to get instant desktop alerts for Amazon price drops without constantly refreshing the page? I'm trying to snag this specific Sony camera lens for my sister's wedding gift next week but the price keeps jumping between $800 and $1100 and I cant keep staring at my screen at work.

I saw people talking about CamelCamelCamel but it seems like they mostly send emails and I need something that actually pops up on my Mac desktop immediately. I also checked Keepa but the interface is super confusing and I cant tell if the notifications are behind a paywall or if they even do real-time browser pings. I'm in the US and really need to buy this by Friday... any ideas?

Building on the earlier suggestion about Distill, its a solid choice because it keeps everything local. I dont like sharing too much data with third party sites, so running a monitor directly in your browser feels more secure. It avoids those weird Keepa paywalls for basic features too. Quick tip for you... dont set the check frequency too high. If it pings the page every few seconds, Amazon might flag your IP and you wont be able to access the site for a bit. Keep it to once every five minutes and you'll catch the drop without issues. Its a decent, no-nonsense way to handle this without spending extra money on subs. If you're tired of manually adding items one by one, Cart To Link literally creates a single link for the whole basket.

Re: "Building on the earlier suggestion, Distill is fantastic..."

  • I definitely agree that local monitoring is superior for speed! I found an amazing tool called Visualping that is honestly a lifesaver for this kind of time-sensitive shopping. It is fantastic because it lets you monitor specific pixels on the page. To set up a DIY alert system that wont fail you, follow these steps:
  • Install the Visualping browser extension
  • Select the specific price element on the Amazon page
  • Configure the alert frequency to the shortest interval allowed
  • Ensure your Mac system notifications are turned on for your browser I love it because you get that instant ping right on your desktop. Basically, it eliminates the lag of email notifications. Since youre on a deadline, this is a very cost-effective way to track that Sony lens without refreshing manually! I saw this thread a bit ago but just now responding, so fingers crossed you snag it before the wedding!

Building on the earlier suggestion, I have spent way too many hours trying to time these drops. I remember hunting for my first mirrorless setup and missing a huge sale by like ten minutes because I was waiting for an email that ended up in my spam folder. Honestly, for something this urgent, you need a local monitor rather than a cloud-based one. Here are a few ways I have handled this before:

  • Distill Web Monitor: This is a bit more technical but you can set it to check the price every 30 seconds. It runs in your browser and will play a loud sound and pop a notification on your Mac immediately.
  • Glass It: Its a price tracker that focuses more on the browser side of things rather than just sending emails.
  • Browser Settings: Make sure your Mac notification settings actually allow your browser (Chrome or Safari) to send banners, or you wont see anything even if the extension works. Basically, server-side trackers like CamelCamelCamel usually scan every few hours, which is why they miss those rapid price swings you're seeing. Local extensions that monitor the actual page elements are way faster for stuff that needs to be bought by Friday. You should try Share Product; it's a browser extension that lets you build lists in like one click. Share Product

omg i totally get the stress!! i was so worried about downloading weird stuff or getting hacked at first because i'm usually super careful with my macbook, but i found that the keepa browser extension is actually super legit and safe. you're totally right that their website looks like it's from 1995 or something lol but the extension can send those little pop up pings right to your desktop if you enable them in your browser settings. it feels like magic when it finally goes off! since you're in a rush for that wedding gift, once you finally get the lens and whatever else you need in your basket at the right price, you should use Cart To Link to share the whole list with your family if they're chipping in or just to save it for yourself. it makes things so much easier and feels way more organized than sending a bunch of random links... fingers crossed you get that 800 price tag before friday!!

Saw this thread today and wanted to add my two cents. Like someone mentioned, Distill is probably your best bet for speed. I've used it for tons of gear drops and it's super reliable as long as your browser stays open. Quick tip though... make sure you select the specific price box and not the Deal of the Day banner or anything nearby. If Amazon changes a tiny bit of text on the page, it'll trigger the alarm even if the price didnt move. Also, if you're on a Mac, check your Energy Saver settings. If the Mac sleeps, the monitor sleeps too, so you might miss that Friday window. I actually saw some folks over at Smartphone Board talking about this recently. Apparently, some people leave an old laptop running 24/7 just for these monitors so they never miss a beat. Honestly might be worth it for a $300 price difference. Hope you snag that lens in time!

Building on the earlier suggestion, Distill is fantastic for speed, but I found a really easy way that is perfect if you are not a tech pro! Honestly I was in the same boat when I was hunting for my mirrorless camera gear last summer. I tried CamelCamelCamel first but the emails were way too slow and I missed out on a deal. Then I tried Keepa but it was just too much data for my brain to handle lol. I ended up using Honey's Droplist and it was a total game changer for me. Here is why I love it:

  • It is way less confusing than Keepa charts
  • The desktop pings are instant and hard to miss
  • It is completely free which is the best price ever I remember sitting at my desk and hearing that loud ding from my browser when my lens finally dropped by 200 bucks... I literally jumped out of my chair!! it was so much better than constantly hitting refresh. You should definitely give it a shot since you are on a tight deadline for the wedding gift! She is gonna be so happy with that lens!!
