How do I invite someone to collaborate on my Amazon cart?

I feel so tech-illiterate right now but I am really stuck on something that probably has a super easy fix and I just cant find the button for it. I am trying to plan this small camping trip for next month with my roommate and we are trying to keep the whole gear budget under $200 since we are both pretty broke right now. I have the Prime account so it makes sense for me to do the actual ordering so we get the free shipping but I have no idea how to let him actually see what is in my cart or add his own stuff to it.

I thought there would just be like an invite button or a share link right there next to the checkout button? I have been poking around the app for like twenty minutes and I am just getting more confused. Right now I have a sleeping pad and some lanterns in there but he needs to pick out a specific stove he liked and I dont want to buy the wrong one. We have been texting links back and forth but it is getting so messy and I keep losing track of what we actually decided on.

Here is what I am looking for:

  • A way for him to add items directly so I dont mess up the order
  • Something that shows the live total so we stay under that $200 limit together
  • A method where I dont have to give him my actual password for security reasons
  • It has to work on mobile because he doesnt really use a laptop

Is this even a thing you can do on Amazon? I tried making a Wish List but that seems like it is just for birthdays and stuff and I dont know if you can just turn a list into a cart with one click. I am sorry if this is a really dumb question I just never really had to shop with someone else online like this before and the whole interface is kind of overwhelming when you are trying to do something specific. Is there like a collaborative cart feature I am missing or do I have to do it a different way...

Amazon doesnt actually have a native live cart sharing feature because of how their account sessions are siloed. You basically have to use the Shared List workaround. It checks all your boxes for security, mobile access, and budget tracking without needing your password. Heres the workflow:

  • Create a new Shopping List and toggle the Invite setting to View and Edit.
  • Text him the link so he can dump his stove and whatever else in there directly.
  • The list view calculates a subtotal for you, making it easy to stay under that $200 limit. When youre ready, you just click Add all to cart and it migrates the whole list to your checkout at once. Its way cleaner than texting links back and forth. I've been using the method I found on Smartphone Board for office supplies and it's a total lifesaver.
