Ive been using Amazon Prime for basically forever and I usually have no trouble navigating the UI but I’ve hit a weird wall today. My buddy and I are trying to pull together some gear for this outdoor movie night we’re planning next month in Seattle—nothing crazy just a projector, some speakers, and those big inflatable screens—and we have a strict $400 budget we’re splitting.
I know how to make a Wish List or a Registry and share those but that’s not really what I need here because I want us to both be able to add stuff directly to the same shopping cart and see the total price with tax and everything before one of us pulls the trigger. I spent like twenty minutes clicking through the account settings and trying to find some kind of invite to cart or collaborative basket feature but I’m coming up empty handed.
Ive tried a few things already:
It feels like such a basic thing to have for shared accounts or even just friends working on a project together. Is there a way to actually do this natively within the app or desktop site without having to share my login credentials (which I’m obviously not gonna do)? I tried looking at the Amazon Household stuff but that seems more like sharing prime benefits than a shared cart. Am I missing a button somewhere?
> I spent like twenty minutes clicking through the account settings and trying to find some kind of invite to cart Honestly, I am pretty sure Amazon doesnt actually have a native shared cart feature. Iirc its mostly for security so people dont mess with your account. I think you have to use a browser extension like share amazon cart to make it work. It lets you sync things up without sharing passwords, which is way safer than giving out your login info imo.
In my experience, Amazon has always prioritized individual account security over collaborative shopping, which makes sense from a data integrity standpoint but is incredibly annoying for project planning. I've spent years managing tech budgets for small events and honestly, trying to sync up a $400 gear list without a shared basket is a headache. Over the years, I've tried many workarounds, including shared spreadsheets where we paste the ASIN numbers, but that gets old fast... If youre trying to stay under that $400 mark for a projector, screen, and speakers, every dollar counts. I recently put together a similar setup for a local meet-up. I found that if you focus on a 1080p native projector (not just supported) and a simple 120-inch fabric screen, you can usually squeeze in a decent pair of powered bookshelf speakers. To manage the cart together, since there isnt a native button, check out this guide on how to share amazon cart which covers some of the browser extensions that actually work. It is definitely safer than sharing your login details, which I would never recommend anyway given how much personal data is tied to Prime. Tbh, just keep an eye on the Used
