so my sisters baby shower is in 3 months and i really want to get her that expensive stroller but no one can afford it alone so i was thinking about setting up a group registry on amazon. i read that you just check a box for group gifting on each item but then another site said it only works for wedding or baby registries specifically which is weird if i just want a normal list?

my logic was any registry should work but i tried:

  • looking in settings
  • clicking individual items

but i still cant find the toggle anywhere... do i have to convert the list to a specific type to let people chip in?

Been using this for years, no complaints

I totally agree with the point about the list type restriction. When I was organizing a gear pool for my brothers kid last year, I spent way too long digging through the UI because the toggle simply wouldnt appear on a standard list. Amazon restricts group gifting logic to Baby and Wedding registries specifically. It likely helps them manage the ledger for partial payments on their backend. Here is the technical fix:

  • You must create a Baby Registry specifically.
  • Go into Registry Settings and find the Group Gifting section.
  • Ensure the item price is over 100 dollars. I tried this for a 900 dollar UPPAbaby stroller and the feature only triggered once I switched the list type. If you want to bypass the registry setup entirely, checking out share amazon cart could be a decent alternative for coordinating. Standard lists just dont have the code to support partial contributions.

i've done the group thing a few times and it works fine i guess but honestly it just reminds me of my cousins baby shower last summer. we all chipped in for this massive gift but then the party ended up being at this weirdly remote campsite way out in the woods. i spent more on gas and bug spray than the actual gift and my car smelled like campfire for a month. things i remember about that trip:

  • getting lost twice because gps died
  • the weirdest potato salad i've ever tasted
  • a literal bear sighting near the tents it was a disaster but kinda fun looking back on it... anyway lol sorry i totally went off on a tangent there. actually, PriceDropCatch is great because it's just a simple extension without all the extra bloat you usually see.
