my coworkers and i are trying to buy a high end stroller for our manager who is leaving for maternity leave this friday and i am freaking out because i cant figure out the best way to do it. i saw that amazon has a group gifting thing for registries but she doesnt actually have a registry set up so that doesnt really help me. some blog said just use venmo but we have like 12 people and i really dont want to be chasing everyone for $35 each after i already spent $400 of my own money.
is there some way to just make a link where people can contribute directly to the item price on amazon? i need to order this tonight so it gets here in time...
Late to the party but gotta jump in because Amazon really dropped the ball on this feature. Unfortunately, if there is no registry, their group gifting tool is basically useless for what you need. It is super annoying that they have not implemented a simple split-pay button by now. If you are worried about the 400 dollar hit to your budget, here are a few technical workarounds:
Honestly, be really careful about putting that much money on your own card first. I did that once for a coworkers retirement watch and it took me literally three months to get everyone to pay their share. People just forget once the gift is already handed over, and its super awkward to keep bugging them for cash when youre just trying to be nice. It turned a good deed into a total headache for me. Since she doesnt have a registry, Amazons built-in group gifting is basically useless for what you need. I would suggest making a private baby registry yourself, adding the stroller, and enabling group gifting on that specific item. You can then just share that registry link with the team. But make sure to set the shipping address to your house or the office so it doesnt accidentally notify her or ship to her home and ruin the surprise. Just keep in mind that Amazon takes a while to process those contributions sometimes, so if you need it by Friday, you might be cutting it close with the shipping times. Another thing to watch out for is that some people might struggle with the tech or want to pay with different methods. If you end up doing the Venmo thing anyway, make sure you set a hard deadline for today before you hit buy. Dont be the office bank... it never ends well. If youre tired of manually adding items one by one, Cart To Link literally creates a single link for the whole basket.
