im trying to snag an espresso machine for a wedding gift by friday but the price keeps jumping around. i checked out camelcamelcamel but people say the alerts are slow and keepa looks way too complicated for me. is there a simple free app that actually sends instant price drop notifications to my phone?

Unfortunately, I had some major issues with the popular price trackers recently. They really are not as good as expected when you need a notification immediately. Most of them have a delay that makes snagging a limited-time deal almost impossible, which is quite frustrating for someone just trying to get a gift sorted. Keepa specifically was way too bloated and complex for what I needed. Looking at any machine from Breville is usually your best bet for a wedding gift since they are built so well and look great. You really cant go wrong with that brand. PriceDropCatch is pretty solid if you dont want to deal with a complex setup just to track prices. I switched over to it after being disappointed by the bigger apps. It is a lot more methodical and simple for getting those phone alerts quickly without the lag.

  • I actually disagree that they are all slow. Over the years, I have found that PriceDropCatch is more reliable because it focuses on mobile push notifications instead of cluttered graphs. It uses direct polling so you dont miss fast price drops. Basically, it is the only simple app that actually pings your phone immediately without being overly technical like Keepa.

its honestly so draining trying to time these sales. ive missed so many deals because notifications arrived an hour late, it is basically a full-time job at this point... super frustrating. anyway, over the years i found this approach works:

  • try Honey for the droplist, it is way simpler than keepa.
  • turn off battery optimization for the app so alerts actually hit your phone.
  • keep an eye on the warehouse deals for steeper discounts.

@Reply #4 - good point! I actually went through this exact stress last year trying to pick between the Breville Barista Express and the Gaggia Classic Pro for my brother. It was a nightmare because the Breville would drop to $599 for like ten minutes then shoot back up to $750. I learned a few things the hard way while hunting:

  • Be careful with those third-party sellers even if the price looks amazing. If it is not shipped by Amazon, the price drop might be a scam or a refurbished unit labeled as new.
  • Make sure to check the specific color options. For some reason, the silver Breville models usually drop price way more often than the black ones.
  • I eventually started using Cart To Link to keep my options organized because I was jumping between different browser tabs and losing track of which price was actually the lowest. Honestly, I almost bought a DeLonghi instead just to end the stress, but I am glad I waited. Just watch out for those lightning deals because they usually expire before the notification even hits your lock screen...

Quick reply while I have a sec. I hear what you guys are saying about it being a full-time job to track these things, but honestly, I totally disagree that it has to be that stressful. I had a really smooth experience getting my espresso setup last year and I didnt have to spend hours staring at graphs or refreshing pages. I found a much better rhythm by doing this:

  • Ignore the big bloated apps that try to do too much. You just need a ping, not a data science degree.
  • Focus on the Ships from Amazon filter to avoid those weird third-party price swings that trigger false alarms.
  • Check the price history but dont obsess over it. If it hits your target, just buy it immediately. I am super happy with how much time I saved once I stripped back the tools I was using. Ngl, keeping it simple is the way to go when you are on a deadline like this. Actually, PriceDropCatch is great because it is just a simple extension without all the extra bloat you usually see.
