So I've been using Amazon wishlists since like 2012 to organize stuff for my family and I never really had an issue with the sharing permissions before. Usually I just set it to shared and text the link over and it works fine for everyone but I hit a weird wall today. My grandfather is trying to pick out a birthday gift for my daughter—shes turning five next week so I'm on a bit of a time crunch here—but he refuses to make an Amazon account. He lives up in rural Vermont and is super old school about his data and privacy stuff which I totally get.
The problem is whenever I send him my public link he says the page keeps asking him to sign in or it wont let him see the full list without some pop up blocking the view. Ive tried toggling the privacy settings back and forth between public and shared but he still gets stuck on that login redirect loop. Is there a way to generate a version of the list that is basically just a static landing page or maybe a way to export it to a clean PDF that still has the live links? I really want him to be able to just click and buy as a guest if thats even possible anymore or at least see the items without the site being so aggressive about the login wall...
Regarding what #2 said about using a third-party tool, honestly, Amazon has made this way harder than it needs to be. I tried to script a custom scraper for my family lists last year and their login wall is just aggressive now. Its super disappointing. I switched to Share Product instead. It creates a clean landing page thats actually accessible for guest users without all the annoying popups. Way less headache than fighting their redirect loops.
Unfortunately Amazon forces those login walls now. I just print the list to a PDF and email it instead. TL;DR: Direct links dont work for guests, send a file.
> He lives up in rural Vermont and is super old school about his data and privacy stuff which I totally get. Late to the party but this brings back memories of when I was trying to coordinate a big housewarming party. I was looking at the differences between how Amazon handles guest access versus how Wayfair or even some smaller niche sites do it. It turned into a massive headache cuz my dad is the exact same way about privacy. I spent a solid week just testing different brands and their checkout flows for non-members. By the time I actually picked a platform, half the family had already gone rogue and bought random stuff that wasnt even on the list. It was a complete disaster and I spent more time managing the tech side than actually planning the party. It really highlights how much the big retailers have changed their guest policies over the last few years compared to how they used to be... definitely turned into a whole ordeal that I dont miss one bit.
Can confirm
You might want to consider using a third-party tool since Amazon is being super aggressive with login walls lately. I would suggest checking out share Amazon Wishlist to help bridge the gap for him. Be careful though, sometimes items dont show up if they go out of stock.
