Just got a 65 inch Sony X90L for my living room and I'm trying to get it mounted before my sister visits next weekend. I did some digging and saw the official Sony SU-WL850 mount, but man, $250 is way over my budget for just a bracket.
I looked at Sanus options too, but I read that Sony puts their VESA holes really low on the back, so universal mounts end up making the TV sit way too high on the wall. I'm really worried about the alignment looking wonky. Is there a specific mount that works better with that low hole placement or do I actually need the overpriced Sony one?
Yeah, that low VESA placement on Sony sets like the X90L is a total pain. If you use a basic fixed mount, it usually ends up looking way too high. You definitely dont need to drop $250 on the official Sony one though. I usually point people toward mounts with vertical adjustment because they give you that extra wiggle room to shift the screen down a few inches after its bolted in. Here are a few that actually play nice with the X90L:
Like someone mentioned, that offset's really problematic. Unfortunately, most cheap brackets fail to account for this properly.
Re: "Like someone mentioned, that offset's really problematic. Unfortunately,..." - honestly its a scam. In my experience, Sonys weird design creates safety risks... feels like the TVs gonna fall, drives me crazy tho.
Tbh you really have to be careful with the X90L because of those bottom-heavy VESA holes. If you aren't super precise with your drill, you'll end up with that TV way higher than you wanted. I've seen it happen a dozen times. Make sure to double-check the vertical rail length on whatever mount you pick. You want rails that are long enough so you can hook the TV onto the wall plate using the very top section of the bracket's range. Keep these technical bits in mind:
