Hey everyone! I have a 14-hour flight coming up next month and I really want to upgrade my gear. I have heard great things about Sony, but I am torn between a few models. Comfort is my biggest concern since I will be wearing them for hours, and I definitely need top-tier noise canceling to block out engine drone.

I am looking at the WH-1000XM5s, but some people say the XM4s are actually better for travel because they fold up. Also, how is the battery life on these for such a long haul?

Between the current over-ear models, which one would you recommend for maximum comfort and silence on a long international trip?

In my experience, I totally get ur dilemma! 14 hours is a LONG time to have stuff on ur head lol. I'm still kinda new to high-end audio but I've used both of these on trips. For ur situation, I would suggest looking at the Sony WH-1000XM4 Wireless Noise Canceling Over-the-Ear Headphones first. Even though they're older, they fold up really small which is basically a lifesaver when ur bag is already stuffed. Honestly the noise canceling is like magic... you won't hear that engine drone at all. But you might want to consider the Sony WH-1000XM5 Wireless Noise Canceling Headphones if you want the absolute newest tech. They are super light, but be careful because the headband is pretty thin and might start to hurt after a while. Battery life on both is seriously amazing though... like 30 hours easy, so you'll have plenty of juice for the whole flight! Make sure to try them on first if you can cuz everyone's ears are different. gl!

Ok so, watch out for the hype on the newest designs. I went through this last year and realized paying premium prices is often a trap. Honestly, my expensive Sony pair felt less reliable than the older ones i had.

  • non-folding sets are a huge pain for storage
  • newer hinges feel way more fragile for travel
  • pricey pads still get gross after 10 hours In my experience, being cautious with ur budget is usually smarter... gl!
