You gotta be careful with some of the cheaper shotgun mics tho, since cables can sometimes introduce annoying hiss or just fail right when youre recording something important. I would suggest looking at the Sony ECM-B1M Shotgun Microphone. It really holds its own against stuff like the Rode VideoMic Pro+ Shotgun Microphone because it uses the digital interface. No cables, no batteries to charge, just slides right on. Just make sure to check if your specific Sony body supports the digital audio out via the shoe... otherwise youre paying for features you cant even use. Quick tip: definitely get a decent deadcat for it. The stock foam covers are kinda weak if youre vlogging outside and there is even a tiny bit of wind.
