Im honestly so frustrated right now trying to find a cage that actually works with the original Sony top handle because every site says something different. So I was thinking about the SmallRig one because it's cheap and easy to get here in Seattle but then I saw the Tilta V2 kit and my logic was that the cooling fan needs more space.
Im torn between the SmallRig 4183 and the Tilta v2 cage but the Tilta is like double the price once you add the rails and everything... i need this sorted for a wedding shoot next month and i cant decide if the extra $150 is even worth it or if im just paying for the name. Which one should I go with?
Honestly, the FX3 cage market is such a headache right now. Testing different setups took forever and most of them just feel like cheap aluminum that doesnt line up right. The SmallRig 4183 Cage for Sony FX3 FX30 is okay for beginners, but the tolerances are unfortunately pretty sloppy. If you are doing a wedding, you dont want your side handle wiggling while the bride is walking down the aisle. About the fan... its basically a non-issue with most designs because the internal fan vents through the bottom and back anyway. If you want something that actually holds up better than the budget stuff, check these out:
Unfortunately, my SmallRig 4183 Cage for Sony FX3 FX30 had issues with loosening mid-shoot. It wasnt as good as expected. Just get the Tilta Sony FX3 FX30 Camera Cage V2 tho.
I spent ages obsessing over thermal data! After trying cheap options, it's pretty clear that tight tolerances are essential for my rig's heat flow. Investing more in my current setup totally improved my workflow efficiency!
