My current setup is an old A6400, which has served me incredibly well for years, but I'm really itching for that full-frame goodness, especially for landscape photography and some casual portrait work. The compact size of the A7C II is a massive draw for me, as I travel a lot and hate lugging around heavy gear. Plus, the improved autofocus and that new AI processing unit sound like absolute game-changers for my shooting style.
I know it's super early to talk about Cyber Monday 2025, but I'm trying to get a head start on budgeting and understanding potential deal cycles. I missed out on some of the bigger sales this past year (2024), and honestly, the A7C II was still a bit out of my comfortable price range even during those fleeting discounts. Like someone mentioned, tracking these price tags is basically a full-time hobby! I am in the exact same boat as you, just staring at my old gear and waiting for that 2025 drop to finally happen. Its so tough because I have been comparing it against everything else out there and honestly nothing hits the spot like the Sony A7C II Body for travel. Here is how I am seeing the options while I wait:
- Sony A7C II: That AI autofocus is just legendary! It is the perfect size for my bag, though I hate how the price is staying so high even months later.
- Panasonic Lumix S9: I love the compact design and the colors are fantastic! But the lens selection just isnt there yet compared to the Sony E-mount ecosystem.
- Canon EOS R8: It is way more affordable for full-frame, which is awesome! But the battery life is just abysmal and it lacks IBIS which is a huge dealbreaker for my landscape shots. I am basically stuck in this waiting game with you! It is frustrating but hopefully 2025 is the year we both finally get our hands on one without totally breaking the bank.

Ok so, looking ahead to 2025, I am always a bit nervous about just chasing the absolute lowest price because you really want that reliability for a long-term camera like the Sony A7C II. If it were me, I would be weighing these specific options:
- Buying New from Authorized Dealers: This is the safest bet by far. You get the full Sony manufacturer warranty. Even if the discount is only $200, that safety net is HUGE for a complex camera with that new AI processing unit.
- Official Manufacturer Refurbished: These are sometimes available through big stores. It is a middle ground because they do inspections, but I am always a little bit hesitant about the shorter warranty periods they offer - not 100% sure if the savings are worth that risk?
- The Kit Lens Bundle: Sony usually slashes prices more on the Sony FE 28-60mm f/4-5.6 bundle. It saves money, but I wonder if kit lenses are as RELIABLE as buying a dedicated prime lens separately, or maybe they just feel a bit more plasticky? Honestly, if you want this to last as long as your A6400, I think? sticking to authorized new deals during Cyber Monday is the way to go for the hardware security.
