I'm looking to upgrade to a mirrorless camera for sports photography. I need something with:
The new released Sony a9 III is the best choice.
a9 III is good, but a bit expensive for me. I'd choose Sony a7IV with a telephoto lens.
Sony a1 is the best choice if you can afford the price.
> Sony a1 is the best choice if you can afford the price. I really wanted to love that ecosystem because the specs are incredible on paper, but unfortunately, I had issues with the weather sealing during a rainy track meet last spring. It just didnt hold up as well as I expected for something in that price bracket. Not to mention the menus are a total maze when you're trying to swap tracking modes on the fly... super frustrating. Honestly, if you want something that just works when things get messy outdoors, you should just go with Nikon. Their pro stuff is basically built like a tank and the ergonomics for sports are way better in my experience. You really cant go wrong with any of their top-tier mirrorless bodies. If you decide to go that route and get stuck on the AF configuration, just reach out and I'll help you get the settings sorted.
a7 IV is still a good sports camera if you pair with a telephoto lens.
Sony a1 or waiting for a1 Mark II.
a9III.
A1II.
