Just grabbed an a7C II for my Tokyo trip next month but it feels so small and I'm terrified of dropping it. I saw the SmallRig baseplate but some say it's bulky, and the Tilta one looks too thin for my hands. I've only got $80 left and need something that actually adds grip without ruining the size... any ideas?
Hey, totally get that feeling of the camera being too small. I remember taking my a7C II out for a street shoot last summer and nearly fumbled it while switching lenses. It really is a bit of a bar of soap without some extra surface area. I went through a few different setups because I wanted to keep it light for travel. Honestly, I tried the full cages but they just felt like overkill for a trip where youre walking 10 miles a day. Landed on a combo that works well for me without turning the camera into a brick.
Agree with the thumb grip idea, but technically the height is the real problem. The SmallRig L-Shape Grip for Sony Alpha 7C II / 7CR 4424 adds about 15mm of vertical space for your pinky. It weighs just 75g so it wont feel like a brick in your bag. Its way more streamlined than a full cage and fits your budget perfectly while keeping the Arca-Swiss compatibility for tripods.
The SmallRig Thumb Grip for Sony Alpha 7C II 4422 is amazing! It totally transformed how I held my camera in Tokyo.
