Hey everyone! I finally managed to secure my PS5 Pro pre-order, and I'm super excited to see those enhanced graphics in action. However, since the console is a bit of an investment and doesn't include the disc drive or vertical stand in the box, I'm trying to figure out which extras are actually essential. I’m already eyeing the DualSense Edge for better control, but I'm also debating if I should grab a 2TB M.2 SSD right away given how massive games are getting lately. For those of you upgrading or planning to, what are the absolute must-have accessories you're picking up to complete your Pro setup?
In my experience, games are huge! I'd suggest:
- Samsung 990 Pro 2TB SSD (7450MB/s speed)
- WD_BLACK SN850X 2TB SSD (reliable performance)
Make sure to check heatsinks, but both fix storage issues i guess??
> I’m already eyeing the DualSense Edge for better control, but I'm also debating if I should grab a 2TB M.2 SSD For your situation, I’d prioritize the PlayStation 5 Disc Drive first if you have physical discs. Honestly, it's a must-have since the Pro is digital-only. For storage, check out the SK hynix Platinum P41 2TB PCIe NVMe Gen4 M.2 SSD as a solid alternative. It runs really cool and has worked well for me over the years. Def worth it for those massive game installs, right? gl!
Like someone mentioned, storage is a big deal, but honestly I think people ignore the peripheral side too much. If youre going for that Edge controller, be careful because the battery life is pretty short compared to the standard one. Youre gonna be charging it constantly. I actually disagree with just relying on the USB cable. Its a mess and puts a lot of stress on the port. I would suggest looking at a proper dock instead:
Any updates on this?
TL;DR: Focus on high-quality maintenance tools and certified cabling to protect your investment and avoid needing a professional service later. Since youre dropping serious cash on the Pro, I would honestly suggest looking at it from a DIY maintenance perspective. These consoles are basically high-end PCs now, and keeping them clean is non-negotiable if you want to avoid thermal throttling or fan noise. Instead of paying for a professional service later to deep-clean the internals, grab a few essentials now to do it yourself safely without risking the hardware. Here is what I recommend for a cautious expert setup:
Works great for me
Just catching up on this thread and tbh, looking at the market data right now, people sleep on the Crucial T500 2TB PCIe Gen4 NVMe M.2 SSD. I spent hours doing a deep dive into the IOPS and power efficiency specs for my own Pro build, and the T500 is realy impressive for the price, especially with its performance in modern titles using DirectStorage-style tech. If you want the absolute gold standard for endurance though, the Seagate FireCuda 530 2TB Internal Solid State Drive is basically the benchmark for sustained read speeds in the enthusiast community. Aside from storage stuff, you realy need to look at the audio side to get the full experience. I’ve been testing the Pulse Elite Wireless Headset and the planar magnetic drivers are a massive upgrade over the old Pulse 3D. It uses the new PlayStation Link tech which is gonna be the industry standard for Sony going forward. Its also kinda wierd that the PlayStation 5 Vertical Stand is sold separately now, but basically, if you care about thermals and airflow in a tight setup, its a mandatory tax. Def worth grabbing one before they sell out closer to launch!!
