sick of these insane load times on my ps4 pro. torn between the Samsung T7 and Crucial X8.

  • budget: $90 max
  • size: 1TB
  • use: mostly open world games

is the T7 actually faster on a pro or am i just paying for the brand name? help...

Unfortunately, you're mostly paying for the brand name there. The PS4 Pros USB ports bottleneck the Samsung T7 1TB USB 3.2 SSD so you wont see those advertised speeds. I was pretty disappointed when my Crucial X8 1TB Portable SSD performed exactly like a budget drive on my own console. Honestly, just grab the Crucial X6 1TB Portable SSD and save your money. It'll still slash those open world load times for you.

I spent ages researching because I was worried about losing my game saves. Buying the Samsung T7 1TB Portable SSD made me feel a lot better and I'm really happy with it. It's been totally reliable for my open world stuff.

  • Samsung T7: Runs quiet and stays cool.
  • Crucial X8 1TB Portable SSD: Good value but feels less sturdy. The T7 isnt actually faster on a Pro, just feels like a safer choice tbh.

Building on the earlier suggestion, I unfortunately had issues with the Samsung T7 1TB Portable SSD because it gets throttled way too much. It was not as good as expected for the price. Just grab a Crucial BX500 1TB 3D NAND SATA SSD and an enclosure. Honestly my console fan sounds like a jet engine lately. My cat actually hides when I play... anyway, go cheap.
