Agree with the others, those are solid options. Coming back to this to say that the Ulanzi C016 Full Camera Cage for Sony A6700 is also worth a look if you want to save money. Quick tips for rigging:

  • Mount your mic on the side shoe so it wont block the screen
  • Always tighten the bottom screw properly so it doesnt wiggle Its pretty easy to use and definitely adds some peace of mind.

Yo, congrats on the a6700! It is such a beast for travel. Honestly, for under 50 bucks, you really cant go wrong with the SmallRig Cage for Sony Alpha 6700 4336. I have been using mine for months and im super satisfied with how it fits. It is basically a tank. I was worried about the same thing, dropping my gear or it getting scratched, but this cage adds just enough bulk to make the grip feel way more secure in my hand. For your mic, it has a cold shoe on the top left so it wont block your screen when you flip it out... super convenient. SmallRig is usually the gold standard for budget builds and this one specifically works well because it doesnt block the battery door at all. You are gonna love it for your Japan trip. Just let me know if you have more questions!

tbh i spent way too long looking at the specs for these when i got my a6700... basically obsessed with the weight-to-strength ratio. since youre heading to Japan, you definitely want something that feels secure but doesnt weigh you down. these cages basically act like an exoskeleton for the camera. you screw the body into the bottom of the frame and then you can bolt on mics, lights, or handles without stressing the camera body itself. here are a couple options i've been pretty satisfied with that fit your budget:

this one is super solid. it weighs like 130 grams which is crazy light for travel. i really like the dual-point locking system... it keeps the camera from twisting inside the cage even if youre moving fast. it has a cold shoe on top for your mic and works well with most top handles.

this one is usually a bit cheaper. i was honestly surprised by how well the Arca-Swiss plate is integrated into the bottom. it means you can jump from handheld to a tripod in like two seconds without messing with extra plates. no complaints about the build quality here, feels like a tank. ngl the neewer is slightly bulkier, but if you have bigger hands it actually makes the a6700 easier to hold. both of these leave the battery door and ports totally accessible so you wont have issues swapping cards or plugging in your mic mid-trip. just grab a small screwdriver or a coin to tighten them down and youre good to go...
