Just grabbed the a6700 after years on the a6400 and the autofocus is blowing my mind but honestly the new button layout is messing with my flow. My old cages are useless now because of that flip screen and the new top dial positioning so I need to find something that actually fits. Im prepping for a big wedding shoot in Seattle next Friday and need a setup that lets me go handheld without it feeling like a brick.

  • Budget is around $200 for the cage and handles
  • Needs to be lightweight for 10 hour days
  • Cant block the battery door or the screen rotation

What are you guys using that doesnt get in the way of the controls?

I've spent years testing rigs for long wedding days and found a minimalist half-cage setup is way better for accessing that new dial. I tried a full cage first but it felt too cramped for my hands tbh.

The a6700 is such a beast for AF but man, the body redesign is frustrating. I’ve been shooting with these since the a6000 days and unfortunately, the new layout makes all our old gear useless. I had issues with the screen hitting the cage edges on most early kits, which is just not as good as it should be for a pro body. Since you're on a deadline for that Seattle wedding, stick to what's proven to fit.

I would suggest being careful because brands change layouts just to make old gear useless. Its honestly such a scam. TL;DR: Be cautious, brands just want you buying new metal rigs every year.
