Sony a6700 Memory Card Recommendation ?

I just purchased the new Sony a6700 mirrorless camera and am looking for advice on the best memory card to use with it. The manual says it supports UHS-II SD cards.

From the research I've done so far, it looks like the camera can take advantage of the faster write speeds of UHS-II cards, especially when shooting bursts or 4K video. But those cards are pretty expensive.

Would I be okay going with a high-capacity UHS-I U3 card instead for general photography and occasional video? I don't plan to shoot a ton of continuous bursts or 4K video. I'd rather save some money if the performance difference isn't huge.

Also, any specific UHS-II card recommendations for the a6700 from those who have used them? I see a lot of people recommending the Sony Tough cards. But they are pricey and some reviews mention issues with overheating. The ProGrade Digital UHS-II cards look like a good option too.

What's your take on UHS-I vs UHS-II for the a6700? And any standout memory card models I should consider for reliability and speed? Thanks in advance!

Just get a UHS-II card from your preferred brand: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/search?Ntt=uhs-ii+sd+card+v90&BI=8941&KBID=10361&SID=12345&DFF=d50

I bought Sony a6700 with two Sony Tough G UHS-II cards bundles, works well for several months now.

Ugh, honestly im right there with you on this struggle. I spent way too much time lately obsessing over which card wouldnt choke my a6700 and felt so frustrated by the prices. I tried going the cheap route first with a UHS-I card i already had, but unfortunately, the buffer clear times were just painful during a trip last month. It was super disappointing when I missed a shot of some wildlife because the camera was still busy writing to the card... literally just sat there staring at the red light while the moment passed. I also had issues with a budget V90 card I found that kept giving me write errors, definitely not as good as expected for the money. Since then, I jumped on the ProGrade Digital SDXC UHS-II V60 Gold 256GB and it has been solid for 4K video without that insane Sony price tag. Another one I found that works well for a bit less is the Sabrent Rocket SDXC UHS-II V60 128GB. Its kinda annoying how much these accessories end up costing on top of the camera body, ngl.

I use the AngelBird UHS-II SD card. V60 speed is enough for me.

Angelbird is fast.

@yellowblue If you don't mind the budget, get the V90 cards.

Is UHS-II V60 cards good for a6700?

@m_89s I have the SanDisk Extreme Pro UHS-II V60 SD card, no problem when shooting 4K videos. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/search?Ntt=SanDisk+256GB+Extreme+UHS+II+Memory&BI=8941&KBID=10361&SID=12345&DFF=d50

For general photography and occasional video with your Sony a6700, a high-capacity UHS-I U3 card should suffice, offering adequate performance at a lower cost. However, if you anticipate more frequent burst shooting or 4K video recording, investing in a UHS-II card would be beneficial. The Kingston Canvas React Plus UHS-II card is a cost-effective option, delivering high write speeds comparable to pricier alternatives.
