What is the best lens for the Sony FX30? I'm a novice photographer looking to improve my skills, primarily focusing on car photography with scenic backdrops. Should I invest in a versatile zoom lens or multiple primes? Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!
For professional work on my FX30, I've invested in the Sony 16-55mm f/2.8 G. Yes, it's pricey, but the image quality is outstanding, and having that 16mm wide end is incredibly useful for establishing shots. The weather sealing also gives me confidence shooting in challenging conditions.

I've been using the Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 with my FX30 and it's been fantastic. Great all-around zoom range for video work, constant aperture, and much lighter than Sony's G Master options. Plus, it's reasonably priced compared to native Sony glass.
The Tamron 17-70mm f/2.8 Di III-A VC is worth looking at too. It gives you a bit more reach than the Sony 16-55 and includes stabilization, which is helpful since the FX30 doesn't have IBIS. The build quality is excellent and it's priced between the Sigma and Sony options.

Came here to say the same thing lol. Great minds think alike I guess.
In my experience shooting cars over the years, zooms are convenient but primes are what actually improved my eye for composition. For an FX30, you really want glass that lets in a lot of light and gives you that shallow depth of field to make the car pop against the scenery. Ive tried many setups, but I always come back to a two-lens prime kit for automotive stuff:
