I recently got my hands on the Sony a6700, and I'm loving it so far. However, I'm struggling to find the right external monitor to complement my setup. I mainly shoot video content and occasionally do some vlogging. I'm looking for something with good color accuracy, decent brightness for outdoor use, and hopefully touch screen capabilities. My budget is around 400. I've heard good things about Atomos and SmallHD, but I'm open to other brands too. What are your recommendations? Has anyone used a particular monitor with the a6700 that they absolutely love? Any advice on features I should prioritize? Thanks in advance for your help!

The new released Atomos Shinobi II is a good choice for a6700.

I’ve had really good luck with Portkeys on Sony bodies. For the a6700 specifically, the Portkeys LH5P II is a sweet spot: bright enough for daylight, clean image, and the menus/tools are fast.

If you mostly do run-and-gun, I’d prioritize:

  • brightness (nits) over “bigger screen”
  • a monitor that boots quickly and doesn’t glitch HDMI handshake

Pair it with a small NP-F battery and you’re set.

I use NEEWER F500, a cheap monitor but no problem for my a6600.

For a balance between price and performance, consider the SmallHD Indie 7. It's compact, lightweight, and offers excellent image quality. The touchscreen interface is intuitive, and it comes with helpful features like false color, peaking, and waveform.
