I recently purchased the Sony a6700 and am eager to explore landscape photography. I'm looking for recommendations on lenses that provide sharp images, good low-light performance, and a wide focal length to capture expansive scenes. What lenses do you suggest for landscape photography with the a6700? Any personal experiences or insights would be greatly appreciated!

> TomoHox: "Since you mentioned sharpness and low light, I really think you should look at the Sigma 10-18mm f/2.8..." Ive been following the advice here and I'd suggest being a bit cautious before dropping big money on f/2.8 glass. While those lenses are great, they might be overkill if your main goal is traditional landscape photography. I remember when I first got into this, I was convinced I needed the fastest, most expensive wide angle available. I ended up with a heavy setup that cost me a months rent, only to realize I was shooting at f/11 ninety percent of the time to keep the whole scene in focus. All that extra aperture was just extra weight in my bag that I didnt need. I eventually sold it for a much more budget-friendly, slower zoom and used the leftover money for a high-quality tripod and some filters. Honestly, the tripod did more for my sharpness than the lens upgrade ever could. Just make sure to think about your actual shooting style before you commit to the heavy hitters.

Ok so, to really maximize that 26MP BSI sensor on the a6700, you need glass with high resolving power. For expansive scenes, the Sony E 10-20mm f/4 PZ G is technically the benchmark for edge-to-edge sharpness and internal focusing - but it is an f/4, which might limit you in low-light or astro situations. If you need that extra light gathering capability, honestly, the Tamron 11-20mm f/2.8 Di III-A RXD is a better technical trade-off. It maintains a constant f/2.8 aperture which is huge for blue-hour shots. Another pro-level alternative is the Sony E 15mm f/1.4 G - it's probably the sharpest wide prime for this mount right now. The optical formula handles chromatic aberration much better than the older wide-angle zooms (at least from what I've seen in the MTF charts). Just keep in mind that when you're shooting at 10mm or 11mm, you'll deal with some native barrel distortion, but the a6700's profile corrections handle that easily in-camera. Go for the 15mm if you want the best possible resolution, or the Tamron if you need the focal flexibility.

Congrats on picking up the a6700, it is a killer little camera for landscapes. Since you mentioned sharpness and low light, I really think you should look at the Sigma 10-18mm f/2.8 DC DN Contemporary. Tbh, it is probably the sharpest wide zoom for the system right now. It is tiny too, so it wont weigh you down if you are hiking to a spot. If you find yourself shooting a lot of astro or really dark blue hour scenes, primes might be a better bet:

  • Sony E 11mm f/1.8 is basically a must-have if you want ultra-wide and fast. The sunstars it produces are actually pretty decent for a modern lens.
  • Viltrox AF 13mm f/1.4 STM is another sleeper hit. It is a bit bigger, but the f/1.4 aperture is insane for low light landscapes. The build quality feels way more expensive than it actually is. Basically, if you want versatility go with the Sigma. If you want absolute light gathering for night shots, that Viltrox 13mm is hard to beat for the price.
