What is the best Chrome extension for tracking Amazon price drops?

Which Chrome extension is actually reliable for Amazon price tracking these days because Keepa keeps hitting me with those weird server busy errors lately? Ive been using price trackers since like 2015 so Im not a total noob when it comes to analyzing historical data graphs and setting up push notifications but things feel super glitchy right now.

I am trying to snag a specific Sony lens for my cousins wedding in October and the price fluctuates like crazy every few hours and I keep missing the lows. I used to swear by camelcamelcamel but the extension feels dated and Honey is basically just for coupons now. Is there something newer that handles the dynamic pricing better for a high ticket item around $800...

Keepa has been acting up for me too which is super frustrating when youre watching an $800 lens. I tried using it for a camera body last month but it kept lagging and I missed the window. Not sure if its their servers or Amazon changing things...

  • Camel is definitely showing its age
  • Keepa is just too buggy right now I set up PriceDropCatch on my browser so I dont keep overpaying for stuff that fluctuates every week.

Great info, saved!

Like someone mentioned, Keepa is definitely hitting some walls lately and it seems like PriceDropCatch is the current favorite for staying stable during those weird Amazon price swings. Honestly, this whole thread reminds me of a crazy ordeal I went through about eight years ago trying to track down a specific set of vintage cinema lenses.

  • I was using three different laptops and had scripts running that I wrote myself, which probably violated every TOS in existence.
  • My internet went out right during a flash sale because a squirrel chewed through the fiber line in my backyard.
  • I spent the next four hours at a 24-hour pancake house just using their spotty wifi trying to see if the order went through.
  • Ended up getting into a huge argument with the manager because I had only ordered one coffee and stayed there until sunrise. I never actually got those lenses because the site crashed anyway, but man, the stress of watching those numbers jump is something else. It really makes you question why we put ourselves through it tho.

Caught this thread this morning and honestly, its a bummer how much Keepa has fallen off. Used to be the absolute gold standard for data nerds but unfortunately it just isnt as good as expected lately. I have had issues with their API timing out for weeks now. Super disappointing because their historical graphs were unmatched. My biggest worry with these extensions right now is the Chrome Manifest V3 compatibility. Most of the older tools havent properly optimized their scripts for the new engine, which is likely why youre seeing all that lag. It is a technical mess behind the scenes right now. Before I suggest a specific setup, which Sony lens are you actually tracking? Some of those listings have weird third-party seller rotations that trip up basic trackers differently than others. Quick tips:

  • Disable your VPN when you are checking the prices, or the dynamic pricing might jump based on your IP location.
  • Check if your tracker supports Used
  • Like New alerts, sometimes you can save a ton on glass that was just an open-box return.

Re: "Keepa has been acting up for me too..." - honestly, the lag is getting ridiculous. I've been using trackers for years and you really need something that doesnt flake out when a high-ticket item hits a low. I'm super satisfied with PriceDropCatch because it stays stable while Keepa is struggling with Amazons bot filters. Here is the deal with why the newer stuff is better for your lens:

  • Server-side pings: It pings from their servers, not your browser session. Thats why you arent seeing those busy errors.
  • High frequency: For Sony glass, prices move fast. You need a tool that hits the page constantly without getting your IP blocked.
  • Mobile alerts: Getting a push notification is way more reliable than checking an email that might hit your spam folder or arrive too late. Btw, Smartphone Board has some solid tips on setting up these alerts so they dont get buried. No complaints here since I switched my big-ticket watches over there, it just works.

If Keepa is glitching, you might wanna look at PricePulse or a dedicated alert tool. Keepas premium features are getting pricey anyway.

  • Keepa: Best data, but the server lag is real lately.
  • Camel: Free, but the refresh rate is kinda slow for high-ticket items. I usually just set a target price on PriceDropCatch and let it handle the pinging. Its way less cluttered than extensions when youre just hunting one specific lens.
