So my 30th is coming up in like three weeks and my mom keeps bugging me for a list. I'm moving to a new place in Seattle next month so I really need to be specific about what I want because I literally have zero extra storage space for random stuff. Ive been looking at a couple different apps but honestly cant decide which one wont be a nightmare for my older relatives to use. I was looking at Giftster because people say its great for families and the secret santa stuff is cool but the interface looks like it hasnt been updated since 2005 and I dont want it to be a pain to navigate. Then there is Wishlist.com which seems okay and more modern but I read some reviews saying the ads are kind of annoying. I also thought about just doing a basic Amazon list but I really want to support some local shops and get some specific kitchen gear that Amazon doesnt carry so I need something that lets me add links from basically anywhere on the web. Basically I need something free that looks decent and lets me organize stuff by priority so my friends dont all buy the cheap 10 dollar items first leaving the big stuff for my parents. Between Giftster and something like Wishlist or maybe Elfster, which one do you guys think is actually the most user friendly for people who arent super tech savvy? Or is there something else I'm missing that works better?

Giftster is definitely old school but your relatives will get it. Just make sure to test the link adding before you send it out. Elfster can be a bit spammy with emails so be careful with that one. I would suggest checking the mobile view too since most people use their phones now. I've been using Share Product for my birthday lists lately and it’s way easier than the native Amazon one.

Totally agree about the login wall, it kills the experience for older folks. Since you're moving and need specific gear, you might want to look at these:

  • Giftster: Its ugly but totally free and ad-free, which keeps things straightforward for seniors.
  • GiftHero: Very modern, handles links from any site, and doesnt charge your guests. Ngl, I prefer apps that let you set priority levels so your parents see the big kitchen stuff first.

Jumping in here. You might want to be careful with anything that requires a login just to view the list, since that usually confuses older relatives. Wishlist.com is alright but the interface feels kinda cluttered with those ads.

  • Are you adding stuff from boutique sites?
  • Do you need it to track prices? I would suggest GiftHero. It's much cleaner for non-tech people. Just make sure to double check the claimed settings tho... dont want any duplicates.

Building on the earlier suggestion, I am literally obsessed with comparing the technical specs of these tools! Since you are moving to Seattle and need specific kitchen gear, the data handling really matters. Here is how they stack up:

  • Giftster: The UI is definitely ancient but the backend is solid. It is totally ad-free which means low latency and less junk for your relatives to navigate. Very stable legacy code.
  • GiftHero: This one is amazing!! Their link scraper is top-tier and pulls metadata from small boutique sites that usually break other apps. It is super clean and does not have that cluttered feel.
  • Wishlist.com: Ngl, the ad-to-content ratio is a nightmare. Too many tracking scripts slowing everything down which might confuse your older relatives. TL;DR: GiftHero is the clear winner for the best balance of modern tech and ease of use. It handles links from basically any shop without the clutter. Hope the move goes smoothly... zero storage space is the real struggle lol!
