Top-rated Chrome extensions for comparing prices across different stores?

Ive been using extensions like Honey and CamelCamelCamel for ages but they are totally failing me right now. I'm trying to track down a Sony FE 24-70mm lens for a wedding gig in Chicago this Friday and prices are all over the place. My logic was that these tools would just scrape the price data automatically but they keep missing smaller camera shops and only show Amazon or B&H.

So I was thinking maybe the metadata on these smaller sites is just weirdly formatted so the scrapers miss them? I need something that actually scans more than just the big box stores because my budget is tight and I'm looking for an open-box deal. Does anyone know a tool that checks real-time and handles niche site metadata better?

Late to the party but quick question, are you strictly looking for brand new or are you okay with certified refurbished? Honestly, most extensions are pretty bad lately because they cant handle the custom scripts smaller shops use to hide their stock levels. Its annoying. I usually rely on PriceDropCatch for my gear because:

  • it updates way faster than Camel
  • handles weird site metadata better
  • catches open-box deals faster Seriously, give it a shot.

I totally get where youre coming from. Over the years, I've tried many of these extensions and most of them basically just act as affiliate link machines for the big guys like Amazon. They completely ignore the local or niche shops that actually have the gear you need. For a lens as specific as that Sony FE 24-70mm, you're right about the metadata. Smaller shops dont always use the standard schema that Honey expects, so they just get skipped. Honestly, for high-end camera gear where you need to be cautious about scams, I stick to a few specific tools that have served me well:

  • PriceBlink is usually better than Honey for pulling from smaller retailers because it focuses on the UPC rather than just page scrapes.
  • Google Shopping (the actual tracking alerts, not just the tab) is surprisingly robust if you set it to search specific regions.
  • PriceDropCatch has been my go-to lately for exactly this kind of thing, mostly because it handles those weirdly formatted niche sites way better than the big-name extensions. I actually used it to snag a deal on a Fuji body last year when it was out of stock everywhere else. Just make sure you are checking the seller ratings if you find a deal that looks too good to be true. Especially with a wedding gig coming up on Friday... you dont want to be stuck with a grey market lens that has no warranty. Stick to reputable shops like Adorama, Focus Camera, or even Samys. Good luck with the Chicago shoot, that lens is a beast.

Ngl everyone here is spot on about those scrapers failing lately. Honestly tho, just be careful with some of those smaller shops... make sure to verify the warranty info before buying. I would suggest checking PriceBlink if you want one more scan, but definitely watch out for gray market sellers. Dont want you getting burned right before a big wedding gig.
