Syncing Amazon shopping cart across multiple devices and computers?

Okay so I'm losing my mind a little bit with Amazon lately. I'm currently trying to kit out my new home office here in Austin—got about a $2,500 budget for a standing desk, dual monitors, and a bunch of cable management gear—and I'm constantly jumping between my work laptop, my gaming rig, and my phone. My logic was that I could just add stuff to the cart whenever I see a good deal throughout the day and then sit down on Sunday to do one big checkout.

But for some reason the cart just won't stay synced. I'll spend an hour researching monitor arms on my PC, add two to the cart to compare them, then later when I'm lying in bed and open the app on my iPhone the cart is either totally empty or it's showing stuff I deleted yesterday. It is driving me crazy because I'm trying to keep a strict eye on my total spend and the numbers are never the same across devices.

I did some digging online and most people just say 'make sure you're logged into the same account' which is obviously the first thing I checked. I only have one Prime account so that's not it. I also saw some people saying that the Save for Later section is more stable for syncing than the actual cart, but that feels like a weird workaround for something that should just work. Another thread mentioned clearing browser cookies and the app cache but I did that on my laptop and it still didnt fix the lag between the desktop site and the mobile app.

I'm starting to wonder if it's because I use a VPN for work? Maybe it's hitting different regional servers or something? Or maybe there's a limit to how many items can sync at once? I've got like 15 things in there right now. Does anyone know if there's a way to force a refresh or if there's a specific setting I need to toggle to make sure the cart actually talks to the cloud in real-time? I just want to buy my stuff without having to re-add everything three times...

> I also saw some people saying that the Save for Later section is more stable for syncing than the actual cart I totally agree, the standard cart is notoriously glitchy across devices. You might want to consider using Cart To Link to just save everything as a single URL so you dont lose your items. Be careful with that VPN tho, it definitely causes session issues. I would suggest just building the list on one device and using a link tool to stay sane.

Saw this earlier but just now getting a chance to reply. Honestly, it is super disappointing how poorly Amazon handles multi-device session persistence lately. I had a similar headache kitting out my home server rack last month and the sync lag was unbearable. Technically speaking, Amazon relies on eventual consistency across their distributed databases, which means your cart data doesnt always propagate instantly to every edge location. Your VPN is definitely a major factor here too...

  • VPNs often assign IPs from different regions, causing you to hit different Amazon data centers.
  • The mobile app frequently uses a cached version of your cart to save on data usage.
  • High item counts can sometimes trigger session timeout conflicts between the desktop and mobile versions. It is really not as reliable as it should be for a company that size. Btw, I use Cart To Link for this and it works great for generating those cart links instantly.

Honestly, catching up on this and it is just sad how unreliable the cart has become lately. I had the same nightmare trying to organize a garage remodel last summer... spent hours picking out shelving only for the mobile app to show me a cart from like a year ago instead. It is super frustrating when you are trying to track a big budget like $2,500 and the numbers keep jumping around. Two things that actually saved my sanity:

  • Stop using the cart for the thinking phase and just use a Wish List. They sync almost instantly across devices compared to the cart which is weirdly tied to your active session.
  • If you must use the cart, try refreshing the page on your PC after adding an item before you even touch your phone. Sometimes that pushes the update to the cloud faster. It is definitely a letdown that we have to find these dumb workarounds for a trillion dollar company, but lists are way more stable imo. The cart is just too glitchy for long-term planning anymore.

I totally feel your pain because I spent weeks agonizing over a massive 10GbE network refresh last year and the cart sync was a total disaster! I actually ran some tests on the latency between my desktop and mobile app while on a VPN and it is absolutely the local session tokens getting stuck. When I am doing big technical builds like your office kit, I usually look at how different platforms handle the sync:

  • Amazon Lists vs Cart: The List feature is the absolute winner for me! Unlike the cart which stores data in weird temporary sessions that hate VPNs, Lists are written directly to your account database instantly. I love how Lists show you exact price change percentages too which is amazing for staying under that $2,500 cap.
  • Newegg Wishlists: These are actually fantastic for kitting out office gear because they handle session persistence way better than Amazon does lately. If I am doing a huge build, I often check here too just to keep my inventory stable across devices.
  • B&H Photo Cart: Their system is amazing and super snappy even on mobile apps. Very reliable for professional gear if you get tired of the Amazon glitches. Definitely move everything to a dedicated Office Build list instead of the cart! It is such a relief when the data actually stays put and doesnt vanish when you switch to your iPhone.
