How to set up price alerts for specific eBay listings?

I am honestly so annoyed with this website right now and I feel like I am losing my mind. I have been trying to find a vintage Nikon FE2 camera for my photography course in Boston that starts in less than three weeks and my budget is strictly 200 bucks because my textbooks were way more expensive than I thought they would be. I found a few listings that are in perfect condition but they are all way over my price point right now like 280 or 300 dollars. I have been sitting here manually refreshing the pages every couple hours because I am terrified the seller is gonna do one of those limited time discounts or just drop the price to move it and I will miss out by five minutes.

So I was thinking there has to be a built-in way to get a ping on my phone when the price moves right?? My logic was that if I clicked the little heart icon to put it on my watch list ebay would automatically send me an email or a push notification the second the price changed. But I have had four different cameras on my watch list for a week now and I noticed today that one seller dropped their price by 40 dollars and I never got a single alert. Nothing. I only saw it because I happened to click the tab on my computer.

I went into the communication preferences and there are like a million checkboxes and I have no idea what any of them mean. I saw something about saved searches but when I tried that it just started sending me every single Nikon FE2 that got posted which is not what I want. I want to track the SPECIFIC listings I already picked out. I have no idea where to start and I feel like a total idiot asking but is there a secret menu or something I am missing? Sorry if this is a really basic thing but I am a total newbie at this and the layout of the site is just so confusing to me. Is there a specific button for this or do I need a separate app to do this for me? I just really dont want to spend my whole day hitting the refresh button...

Totally agree that the site layout is way too confusing for alerts! Honestly, it is so frustrating when you miss a deal!!

  • Try using a dedicated price tracker app for specific listings.
  • They are way more reliable than ebays internal system for instant pings tho! It is such a fantastic way to stay on top of things without refreshing... definitely worth a look!

Re: "Totally agree that the site layout is way..."

  • Unfortunately, ebays native system is not as good as expected for fast timing. I had issues with alerts arriving hours late which is basically useless. Are you checking this on your phone or desktop? For desktop, try a browser extension like Distill Web Monitor to track specific page elements instead. Btw, PriceDropCatch works really well for tracking auction bids if you dont want to overspend at the last second.

^ This. Also, eBay alerts are unfortunately super unreliable. Had issues with missing drops before. Try PriceDropCatch since:

  • it's way safer tbh
  • it's very beginner friendly
