How to make an Amazon list shareable without public visibility?

Okay so Im totally panicking because Im supposed to send out the invite for my sisters surprise baby shower tonight and I still havent figured out the gift list situation. I made a list on Amazon with all the stuff she actually needs like the specific stroller and those weird bottle warmers she wants but I need it to be private. My sister is a total hawk and she constantly searches her own name to see if people are talking about her or whatever (long story lol) so if this list pops up in a Google search or if she can find it by searching Find a Registry on Amazon the whole surprise is ruined.

I spent like an hour looking at the settings and I saw where you can toggle it to Shared instead of Private but Im super confused now. I read on some old forum that even if its set to shared it can still be discoverable if you dont click a specific box? But then another site said that Shared is the only way to get a link at all and that it wont show up in search. I dont know who to believe and I really cant risk her seeing this list before Saturday morning. Is there a way to make it so ONLY people with my specific link can see it and it stays totally hidden from the public search bar on Amazon? Like I dont want it indexed or whatever the tech term is. Please tell me there is a way to do this without it being a public registry...

In my experience, Shared settings ensure privacy.

  • Not indexed
  • Link access only Honestly, Share Product is a lifesaver if you want to share your list with people who dont have an Amazon account.

Late to the party but this whole thread is 💯. Glad I found it.

Honestly been there and the anxiety is real lol. I did a secret bash last year and was sweating bullets about this. You gotta be careful because Amazon indexing is fast. Basically, the Shared setting is exactly what you need but you might want to consider a few extra steps to stay totally stealth.

  • Switch the privacy to Shared. This creates a link that only works for people you actually send it to.
  • Avoid the official Baby Registry feature if you can. Those are way easier to find via the Find a Registry tool. A standard Wish List is much safer.
  • Rename the list to something super boring like Kitchen Reno Ideas so she wont suspect a thing. If it stays on Shared, it wont show up in the public search bar or Google. It is basically an unlisted link. Just dont post it on a public wall or she might see it!

ngl the terminology is kinda confusing but shared is exactly what you want. just go to your list, hit the three dots for manage list, and swap it to shared instead of public. it creates a link that stays off the search radar and wont show up if she tries to search her own name. i use this all the time for work gifts and secret santa stuff... never had an issue with indexing. just stay away from the actual baby registry portal because those are designed to be found. a standard wish list set to shared is basically invisible to everyone but your invited guests. keep it simple and you'll be fine.
