How to easily share gift ideas with distant relatives?

Ive been the designated tech guy for our family Christmas for years now and honestly I thought I had it down to a science. Usually I just spin up a shared Google Sheet and everyone dumps their links in there but man it is falling apart this year. My relatives in Perth and London are complaining about the UI on their phones and half the time my aunt accidentally deletes someone elses row while trying to scroll. Its a mess. We have about 15 people involved this time with budgets ranging from like twenty bucks to over a hundred and I need something that doesnt require everyone to have a Google account or understand how spreadsheet versioning works. Ive looked at some of those dedicated wishlist sites but a lot of them seem really bloated with ads or they try to force you to buy through their specific affiliate links which feels kinda gross. I just want a clean way to sync a list where people can claim an item so we dont end up with three copies of the same air fryer for my brother. Does anyone have a go-to tool that actually works for non-techy seniors but still feels modern and has decent cloud syncing?

> it is falling apart this year I totally agree, spreadsheet data integrity is impossible with 15 people. You might want to consider Giftster; just be careful with permissions so things dont get messy.

Honestly, I've been through the same ringer with those family spreadsheets. In my experience, once you get aunts and uncles on mobile devices, a grid layout is just asking for a disaster. I've tried many different setups over the years and most of them just feel like ad-riddled junk or affiliate traps. I actually started using Share Product recently and it really simplified things for my non-techy relatives. It basically solves that oops I deleted your row problem entirely.

  • The claiming feature is a lifesaver so you dont get duplicate gifts.
  • It works perfectly on a phone browser without needing an app download.
  • It's way less cluttered than the big commercial sites. Its been my go-to because it keeps the UI dead simple. Not having to explain Google account permissions to my 70-year-old uncle is worth its weight in gold tbh.

Saw this earlier and literally went through this nightmare last year! It was total chaos until I changed my setup.

  • Do they need a mobile app?
  • Or just a web link?

A lot of them are basically just data mining operations disguised as gift tools. Make sure to check if they require a full account just to view a list because that is where my older relatives always get stuck. If they see a big login wall, they just give up or click some weird pop-up by mistake. I would suggest looking for something that uses a simple link share without the heavy login drama. Also, keep an eye on the price fluctuations since things change so fast during the holidays. I usually tell my family to run their links through PriceDropCatch first to make sure they arent overpaying before they even add it to the shared list. Just watch out for those suggested items sidebars on these sites too... they usually lead to scammy third-party sellers. Safety first with the fam, lol.
