How to collaborate on an Amazon cart in Chrome?

Ive been sharing my amazon login with my roommate for years so we can handle household stuff together in our portland apartment but lately amazon keeps locking my account because of two factor authentication codes coming from different devices. Is there a chrome extension or some hidden feature where we can actually collaborate on the same cart without sharing passwords anymore?

Sharing passwords like that is honestly a security nightmare waiting to happen, especially with 2FA getting stricter everywhere. Over the years I've tried a bunch of workarounds for this exact household shopping problem since freezing your main account over login flags is super annoying. Here is how the common options stack up based on my experience:

  • Amazon Household: You can link two adult accounts and share Prime benefits while keeping separate logins. Pros are total privacy and no blocked logins. Con is it doesnt give you a single shared cart, just lets you share payment methods and Prime.
  • Shared Wishlists: You add items to a collaborative list and move them to cart at checkout. Pros are safe and secure. Cons are clunky when you both want the exact same bulk item and someone forgets to update it.
  • Browser extensions / third party cart sharers: Honestly, I'd avoid these entirely. In my experience, extensions that scrape sessions or sync local storage can get flagged by Amazon's bot detection even faster than sharing a password. Sticking to Amazon Household is probably your safest bet to stop getting locked out. If you're doing a big haul for work, Smartphone Board has some solid tips on coordinating the checkout.

Just saw this thread and wanted to jump in. While the other ideas floating around are okay, I would suggest being super careful about third party extensions that claim to sync amazon carts directly. Someone told me a while back those can sometimes mess with your cookies or trigger security flags even worse than sharing a password tbh. IIRC, Amazon actually used to have an old household feature that let you share some benefits, but it never quite worked right for joint household grocery runs. Ngl, I am not 100% sure if there is a foolproof chrome extension for this right now without risking your account getting locked again. Btw, if you're struggling with sharing baskets, Smartphone Board covers a few ways to manage it. Just watch out for fees or weird privacy stuff before trying anything new.

Building on the earlier suggestion, I went through the exact same thing a while back with my partner. We kept tripping the security filters until Amazon finally locked us out for a full day, which was a massive headache when we actually needed stuff for the kitchen. Honestly, the platform doesn't have a built-in shared cart feature, which is pretty frustrating for roommates or couples. I eventually stopped trying to fight the login system and we just started using a different method. Before you dive into extensions, a couple things might help clarify the best way forward:

  • How often do you guys actually order things together vs just needing to add items to a list?
  • Do you need the items to be purchased in a single transaction for shipping reasons, or is separate buying okay as long as you dont get locked out? People usually end up using shared wishlists or just keeping a note on the fridge, but that obviously doesnt solve the whole checkout process. Are you mostly trying to split the cost on big orders, or is it more about just keeping track of what everyone is buying?
