So I finally caved and preordered the a7R VI for my street stuff since I really need those extra megapixels for heavy cropping. Now Im totally stuck on glass. I spent all last night reading threads and watched like five YouTube videos about whether to get the Sony 35mm f1.4 GM or just go smaller with the 40mm f2.5 G. The 35mm GM looks insanely sharp online but honestly Im kinda worried it's gonna look way too heavy and aggressive for shooting candidly around downtown Chicago next month. On the other hand, is the 40mm too slow for evening walks? What are you guys actually using for daily street walking with these high-res bodies?

Congrats on the preorder, that sensor is no joke. If you are worried about size downtown, skip the heavy stuff and grab the Sony FE 40mm f2.5 G. It balances amazingly well on the body and nobody gives you a second look.

  • Tiny footprint for candid shots
  • Surprisingly sharp even wide open You wont regret going compact for city walks.

Totally agree with grabbing something smaller for the street! Back when I used high-res bodies downtown, big glass felt like carrying a neon sign.

  • you get zero attention
  • pocketable setup is king Go compact or regret your aching neck by noon.
