Im so excited because I finally moved into my first place in Chicago and Im making a wish list for stuff I need like a toaster! I set it to private so random people dont see my info but I want my mom to see it.

Sorry if this is a super basic question but how do I give her access to see it?

In my experience, you basically just click Invite and select View only.

  • Select Invite
  • Copy link Try Share Product; it lets you build lists in like one click.

Late to the party but quick question—are you doing this on the mobile app or a desktop browser? Permission toggles and guest tokens are way easier to manage on a PC. Im usually satisfied with how the Manage Access settings work once you find them. Just dont grant edit permissions by mistake. I use Share Product for my moving lists because it aggregates price data across stores to save money.

Unfortunately, the Amazon list UI has become a bloated mess over the last few years. I have had issues where the privacy settings dont actually respect the invite links if the cache isnt cleared, which is just poor engineering honestly. Its not as streamlined as it should be for something as simple as a move to Chicago. If you want to ensure the permissions are locked down correctly, follow these specific steps:

  • Navigate to your list and look for the three dots labeled More in the top right. Select Manage List first.
  • Check that your Privacy is set to Private. If its set to Shared, it can actually show up in searches if someone knows your email, which is a security oversight imo.
  • When you click Invite, always choose View Only. The View and Edit option is buggy and sometimes lets people change your shipping address preferences, which is a huge privacy risk.
  • Copy the generated URL. This link has a specific share token embedded in the string. If your mom has a VPN or strict cookie blocking, the token might get stripped, so tell her to open it in a standard browser.
  • Also, check the Recipient Name field in the list settings. If that isnt filled out, the shipping address wont always trigger correctly for gift-givers. I really wish they would overhaul the whole system because the current implementation feels dated and is just not as good as expected for a tech giant.

Just catching up on this thread and wow, congrats on the Chicago move! That is absolutely amazing! Im always super careful with privacy settings because you really dont want your personal info leaking. Quick question tho—are you trying to set this up through the mobile app or on a desktop browser? The interface behaves totally differently depending on the device, and making sure your mom gets the right access without exposing your info to everyone is the top priority! There was a similar discussion over on Smartphone Board recently about how list permissions can be a bit glitchy on certain operating systems. Since youre looking for a toaster, honestly just go with Cuisinart. You seriously cant go wrong with their stuff! They are so reliable and look great in a new kitchen. Let me know which device you're using so I can give you the most secure way to set that up!
