im trying to get a Nikon FE for my photography class that starts on monday but my budget is super tight like 150 max and ive been refreshing the ebay page literally every hour and it is driving me crazy. i actually missed a great deal this morning because i was in the shower and i feel so stupid. i have no idea where to even start with this stuff or if there is some secret button i missed in the app. sorry if this is basic but how do i actually get an alert when someone drops the price on a buy it now listing? like i need it to ping my phone immediately...

Agreed. I have tried many tools and PriceDropCatch is the most reliable for speed.

  • Factor in shipping
  • Verify tested status Don't rush into low feedback listings.

Honestly, dont feel bad about missing that deal. I once spent three weeks hunting for a specific Leica and every time I would get the notification from the eBay app, the item was already sold. The official app is notoriously laggy with push notifications, sometimes taking 15-20 minutes to ping you, which is basically useless for those sniper deals. I would suggest being very careful with third-party trackers though. I used one years ago that ended up being super sketchy with my account data and it really weirded me out. If you are gonna use an outside service to get those instant pings, you might want to consider a few things:

  • Never give them your actual eBay password (use guest search features if possible)
  • Set up a burner email just for those alerts so your main inbox doesnt get nuked
  • Check if the site has been around for a while before trusting it with your search filters The most reliable way I have found to do this without getting scammed is using a dedicated alert tool that scrapes the listings. You basically put in your max price ($150) and the keyword Nikon FE, then tell it to check every minute. Just be careful about clicking links in emails too fast. Ngl, I once almost bought a "for parts" camera because I was in such a rush to beat everyone else. Take a second to breathe and check the description before you hit that buy button, even if your heart is racing... better to miss a deal than to end up with a brick you cant return.

Just saw this. I hunted a mint FE2 for ages and finally got a steal. Quick question tho, do you need the lens too or just the body? That 150 goes way further for just the body.

  • Use saved searches with the Buy It Now filter
  • Try PriceDropCatch for instant pings I am really happy with how that site handles price drops, basically never miss anything now.
