Look Ive been using Prime for like ten years now so Im pretty savvy with how the Household settings work for sharing shipping and Prime Video but I am hitting a total wall right now. My husband and I are in the middle of this crazy kitchen remodel here in Seattle and the contractor is literally showing up on Monday morning so we need to get the last of the hardware and some lighting fixtures ordered like tonight.
The problem is we have a really strict budget for the fixtures and we both need to see what's in the basket before hitting pay. I assumed there was a way to just sync our carts since were in the same Household but I cant find the setting anywhere. I tried looking through the account management tab and even checked the Alexa app thinking maybe there was a shared shopping list feature that would port over to the actual cart but nothing.
Every time I add something to my cart he cant see it on his phone even though were linked. Is there some hidden toggle in the checkout flow or a specific browser extension people use for this? I really dont want to have to keep sending him individual links for twenty different items because its a huge waste of time. How do I actually link my Amazon cart so a family member can see it and edit it in real time?
Honestly, I went through this exact same headache last year when we were trying to redo our outdoor deck. I was so convinced there was some secret sync button hidden in the settings because, like you, I've had Prime forever. Unfortunately, it turns out Amazon doesn't actually offer real-time cart syncing even for Household members. It's incredibly annoying and was way more difficult than I expected.
> Every time I add something to my cart he cant see it on his phone even though were linked. Ugh, I totally feel your pain with the kitchen remodel! I ran into this exact same bottleneck when I was spec-ing out my home server rack last fall. I wanted my brother to double-check the cable management rails and the PDU specs before I dropped two grand. Here is the technical reality: Amazons backend architecture isolates cart sessions to specific account IDs for security and tracking reasons, so there is literally no toggle to merge them. It is super frustrating! But! There is a fantastic workaround that I use all the time now. You need to use the Amazon Lists feature, not the cart. Create a new list called Kitchen Remodel, then hit the Invite button to send him a link. Once he joins, you both have real-time read/write access to that specific list! It is amazing because you can see his additions instantly and even comment on items. When you are ready to pull the trigger, there is a Move all to cart button that handles the heavy lifting. It works flawlessly on both the mobile app and desktop. Another pro tip... if you guys are really tech-heavy, you can use a shared session via a browser extension like SessionShare, but honestly, the Lists feature is the most stable way to do it without breaking any terms of service. I've been using the method I found on Smartphone Board for office supplies and it's a total lifesaver.
