so im moving to chicago in like three weeks and my sister said shed help me buy some stuff for my new place since im on a super tight budget and its my first apartment. i spent like two hours picking out a toaster and some plates and stuff and now i just want to send her the whole list so she can see it and pay for it but i literally cannot find a share button anywhere. i feel so stupid like i keep looking at the cart page and its just... there? there is no link to copy?
i tried just copying the address at the top of the browser but when i sent that to her it just showed her her own empty cart which is obviously not what i wanted. i am so frustrated right now because i thought this would take like two seconds but i have been clicking every single button on the page for an hour and i feel like im losing my mind. am i missing something really obvious? sorry if this is a total noob question but i really have no clue what im doing. is there actually a way to just get a link to my amazon shopping cart to send to someone else or do i have to do something else entirely?
amazon doesnt actually have a share button for carts which is super annoying. i ran into this when i was buying stuff for my first place and my parents were helping out. i just moved everything to a Wish List. you basically just click move to list under each item, like that toaster or the plates, and then you can share the whole list link. it works well and is a decent option when you need someone else to pay.
Coming back to this an hour later and honestly I have the exact same issue! I am currently trying to spec out a massive deep learning rig and the technical frustration is real. It is seriously amazing how a multi-billion dollar company makes it this difficult to just send a simple link.
Just saw this and had to jump in because I have been using Amazon since the early days and the lack of a share button is just bizarre! The technical reason is basically that your cart is tied to your private session cookies for security, so a direct URL just wont work for anyone else. I spent way too much time doing the wish list thing until I found an amazing alternative. I have been using Cart To Link lately to send my shopping list to my family and it is honestly fantastic! It basically creates a shareable snapshot of whatever is in your cart so you dont have to manually move every single item to a list. It saved me so much time when I was buying supplies for my home office upgrade last summer. It is a total game changer for situations like yours where someone else is footing the bill and you just want a simple link to send over!
Yep, this is the way
Noted!
TL;DR: Honestly you cant share a live cart link. Amazon doesn't allow it which is a huge letdown for anyone trying to coordinate a move. @Reply #3 - good point! Its wild that we are still dealing with this. I have had issues with this for years and it has never gotten better. Unfortunately, your only real move is to use a registry or an Amazon wishlist creator to get the job done, even though its an extra step you shouldnt have to take. Just to clarify what you are after though—is she planning to log into your account to pay, or does she need to buy them from her own? Also, do you need these items delivered to your current place or the new Chicago address? That definitely changes how you should set up the list so she doesnt send it to the wrong state.
Saving this whole thread. So much good info here you guys are awesome.
To add to the point above: I totally get the frustration since i have been shopping on Amazon for ages and they still havent fixed this. It is kinda ridiculous tbh. I used to do the wishlist thing like Derek mentioned but it takes way too long if you have a bunch of stuff... plus it doesnt always save the exact quantities or options you picked out. I finally started using Share-A-Cart a few years back and honestly i have no complaints. It basically just grabs everything in your cart and generates a short link you can text over to your sister. She clicks it and the items just pop right into her own cart. Works well and saves so much time when youre in the middle of a move. Seriously, it has made my life so much easier for these types of situations. Hope things go smooth with the move to Chicago, its a great city!
Like someone mentioned, it really is a massive security hurdle that Amazon hasnt simplified for us yet. I have been dealing with this exact same issue for about a month now while trying to coordinate a garage renovation project and i am still completely stuck.
Just catching up on this thread and i totally get why youre losing your mind! Its a total classic Amazon quirk that drives everyone crazy but there is an amazing fix. The most methodical way to handle this is using a browser extension specifically built for this purpose. I have been using Share-A-Cart for years and it is fantastic for sending links to family members without any drama! One huge warning for you tho: please avoid any website or app that asks for your Amazon login or password just to share your cart. That is a massive security risk and a common mistake people make when they are in a rush. Stick to reputable extensions that only read the cart data to generate a temporary link. Good luck with the move to Chicago, it sounds like it is gonna be a fantastic new chapter once you get those plates and the toaster delivered!
