Me and my roommates are trying to kit out our kitchen for our move to Chicago next month but Amazon makes this so hard. I was looking into this and my logic was that there would just be a share button but nope. I saw people mention the Share-a-Cart extension but I am worried about privacy with third party stuff.
Then I looked at making a public Wish List but then everyone has to manually add stuff to their own carts anyway right? I just want one person to pay the $300 total and everyone else to see the list before we buy so we dont end up with two toasters. Is there a legit way?
Just saw this and honestly... Amazon is so weirdly behind on this. I think I heard you can use Amazon Household to link accounts. From what I remember thats mostly for sharing Prime shipping and movies, not really a live shopping cart you can both use. It might be better to be really careful with those browser extensions because they can be kinda janky and privacy is always a concern with third-party devs... basically just feels risky. Not sure but I think you can make a list collaborative? You might want to consider trying that first. Just make sure to double check the quantities before hitting buy. Tbh I find it way easier to just throw everything into a shared spreadsheet and settle up later. Chicago is pricey enough without buying three air fryers lol. Moving is stressful enough, dont make the tech harder than it needs to be.
Are you guys trying to do one big checkout or just make sure you dont buy duplicates? If you use the Amazon List feature and set it to collaborative, everyone can add stuff and it marks items as purchased once someone buys them. Its basically the cleanest way to avoid that second toaster without sharing passwords. Honestly, Cart To Link is a lifesaver when you're trying to coordinate a group buy or a shared gift on Amazon.
Same here!
Ok adding this to my list of things to try. Thanks for the tip!
Just found this thread and honestly, you guys are making a smart move planning ahead for the Chicago move. I have been very satisfied using a shared spreadsheet with the specific ASINs for our gear. It works well because you keep a clean record for long-term ownership and warranty tracking. Quick question tho: Are you guys planning to use the mobile app exclusively, or is everyone working from desktops? It makes a huge difference in how the session data is handled. One thing to watch out for—do not ever share your primary login credentials. It sounds obvious but people do it just to share carts and it completely nukes your account security and your personalized data model. Stick to methods that dont require handing over the keys to your digital life. TL;DR: Use ASINs in a shared doc to track everything for the long haul. Way safer than sharing logins or using buggy extensions.
No way, I literally just dealt with this yesterday. Small world.

Wow ok that changes things. Gonna have to rethink my approach now.
Honestly, moving to Chicago is gonna drain your wallet fast, so you gotta be smart about these kitchen purchases. Amazon doesnt make it easy to share a live cart because they want every single person to have their own Prime account. I have dealt with this roommate struggle before and I would suggest avoiding those extensions if you are even slightly worried about your privacy. Most of those third party tools ask for way too much access to your browser data for my liking. Here is what I would do to keep things cheap and organized:
Ran into this exact headache when I was spec-ing out a lab setup with a colleague last year. Amazon session data is tied strictly to browser cookies, which makes syncing a dynamic cart across different IPs nearly impossible without some middleman. The manual list method is technically the most reliable for data integrity, but it definitely lacks the immediacy of a real-time checkout flow...
