How can I share an Amazon shopping cart with a roommate?

So I'm moving into a new place in Seattle this Friday and my roommate and I are trying to get our kitchen and bathroom stuff ordered so it arrives the day we move in. I've used Amazon for literally a decade but I'm hitting this wall where I can't figure out how to just let him see what's in my cart. We have about $400 worth of stuff already - a toaster, shower curtain, bulk sponges, all that - and I want him to look it over and add his own things before I pay.

I looked into the Amazon Household thing but that seems more for families who want to share Prime benefits and it links credit cards which we definitely dont want to do for privacy/finance reasons. Is there a simple plugin or some hidden feature to just sync a shopping cart? I tried the Idea List thing but you cant actually move those items into a cart easily as a group it seems and it's a huge pain to do it one by one. It's getting pretty urgent because we need to order by tonight to get the Friday delivery. How do I just share the actual active cart with him without giving him my login?

@Reply #2 - good point! Unfortunately, amazons built-in sharing is honestly pathetic.

  • Try any generic cart tool
  • its better for budget tracking Check Smartphone Board for more help.

Building on the earlier suggestion, Share-A-Cart is the safest way to go. I've used it for years; it generates a code so you never have to share login info or credit cards.

I went through this exact mess last year coordinating gear for a tech lab. Honestly, the best way to share amazon cart is using a browser extension designed for shared sessions. It works well and keeps your bank info separate which is a big win.

  • Syncs items instantly
  • Keeps logins private
  • No prime sharing needed I was super satisfied with how it handled the session metadata without any lag.

@Reply #3 - good point! Honestly, I am in the exact same boat right now and it is driving me absolutely insane. Been dealing with this for like three weeks trying to coordinate a massive order for a housewarming party and nothing seems to stick. It is so disappointing that a tech giant hasn't figured this out... I mean, I have been using this site forever and yet I'm still stuck manually texting screenshots of my cart like it is 2005. I tried the list thing too but it was just a mess and half the stuff didnt even show up for my partner. Ngl, I'm just exhausted by the whole process. Between this headache and trying to keep up with prices on PriceDropCatch, I feel like shopping shouldn't be this much work. Really hope someone finds a real fix soon because I am honestly at my wits end with it. It's just not as good as expected for a platform this big.

  • I am dealing with this exact same mess right now trying to coordinate a group order for a big office renovation. It is seriously driving me crazy that there is no 'invite to cart' button after all these years. Here is a quick look at how the different approaches stack up:
  • Third-party extensions: These seem like the only real way to sync a live cart. It works, but it carries that extra layer of risk since they are not official tools.
  • Amazon Household: This is the official brand solution. It is reliable, but it forces you to share credit card info which is a total dealbreaker for privacy.
  • Idea Lists: These are safe and native to the site. They are a decent option for safety, but they are a massive pain to use for shopping since you have to add items back into the cart one by one. Honestly, I have been looking for a solid answer for weeks and still nothing feels like a perfect fix. It really sucks that we have to choose between convenience and privacy. I've tried everything mentioned here and it's still such a headache.
