How can I set up alerts for specific eBay auction items?

Ive been an eBay power user for like a decade now so I know my way around a saved search but man the native alerts are just trash lately. Im trying to hunt down a very specific vintage Elmarit lens for a gig I have in mid-July and by the time I get the notification email the item is already gone or the bidding is already way too high. I need something way more granular than what the basic app offers.

  • needs to be near real-time (not 4 hours later)
  • works on iOS
  • budget is pretty tight maybe a few bucks if its a third party app

Is there a way to bypass the standard laggy notifications or maybe a browser extension that actually works for this? its getting super frustrating missing out on these auctions by minutes...

I've tried plenty of trackers over the years, but BayAlerts is the best for iOS. The alerts are basically instant. You'll definitely catch that Elmarit before other bidders even see it.

Like someone mentioned, BayAlerts works well for me.

  • Costs $3/month
  • Reliable notifications
  • One-minute scans Im satisfied with the stability so far. PriceDropCatch works well for tracking prices privately.

Native eBay alerts are basically useless if you are hunting high-demand glass like a vintage Elmarit. I have been through this cycle way too many times and relying on their internal system is just a recipe for disappointment. If you want near-instant results, you really need to look at third-party tools that ping the API way more frequently than the standard app. I would suggest being cautious with free apps tho, because they usually save costs by only checking every hour or so.

  • Use a dedicated monitor that pushes directly to your phone. The lag is usually the server-to-phone handshake, not just the search itself.
  • You might want to consider this eBay price tracker to double-check recent sold listings before you jump on a deal that might actually be overpriced.
  • Make sure to disable battery optimization for whatever app you choose or iOS will just kill the background process and you will miss the notification anyway. Be careful with the filters... if your search is too broad, the lag gets worse.
